cause companies were oh so fair to employees on their own, before unions came into being.

Unions have done exactly what they were supposed to do, which is make sure that every worker operates in a safe environment for a reasonable earning. But too often in recent decades, unions try to hold companies hostage over the tiniest little detail-- case in point, the labor unions in MTA (a government agency) threatening to break the law and go on strike if they don't get a raise in their new contract in <b>the middle of a fucking recession</b>. Granted, we've since found out that the MTA has probably been hiding money all over the place and could conceivably pay these guys more, but for crying out loud, they're all being greedy at a time when we need to be cutting back.
