That is the sort of apathy that politicians live for. It lets them know they can act against their constituents' interests (for the most part) with impunity, because there will be no backlash.

Granted, sometimes they take it too far (see: California), and they pay for it. But for the most part, they figure, and perhaps rightly so, that most folks are too busy, too mistrustful, too lazy or too jaded to pay much attention to politics. And those who do pay attention are usually in special interest groups who can afford to get the politician's attention.

So, I'm supposed to act like I care and believe what they tell me? Sorry, been burned too many times to give a shit anymore.

It is what it is and no matter who we put into office, it will more than likely be the same result.
