there was a thing on dateline or one of those things how they don't check freight which takes up a large part of domestic flight cargo space. i flew recently and commented to my mum how now you always have to take your checked luggage over to the xray machine, i thought they just put them out there for reassurance, but apparently they didn't used to do that, even after the panam flight that exploded over lockerbie. it's amazing to me that anything can be loaded onto a passenger airplane without being checked.

my uncle was a pilot for ba for years and i've heard stories of the fbi/cia and such handing packages to the pilot on the runway and then being picked up by agents at the other end. so it wouldn't go through customs, but the fact that shit can basically be airmailed with no checking blows my mind. and my cousin who now lives in amsterdam (son of the pilot) won't fly at all, he takes a 6 hour ferry back to england to visit his parents, can't say i blame him.

it's fucked up, and people try and tell me i shoudn't be scared of flying...
