“102.7 BLINK†LAUNCHES NEW FORMAT FOCUSING ON MUSIC FOR WOMEN
Intensive Contemporary Music Format to Target Women 30-44
New York radio station “102.7 Blink†(WNEW) will debut a new format focusing more intensely on its target audience of women 30-44, it was announced today by Maire Mason, General Manger, 102.7 Blink. The station will concentrate heavily on a contemporary music format with a mix of popular music and entertainment reports beginning today at 4:00PM.
“Blink’s brand awareness is strong, but it’s clear our adult female listeners want more of their favorite music,†said Mason. “Providing our core audience with more of what they crave will not only increase our listenership, but will allow us to capitalize on this niche marketplace.â€
WNEW-FM first hit the airwaves in 1967 and soon adopted a progressive/free-form radio format, quickly becoming one of the country’s most influential rock stations. Throughout the next 30 years, the station played a major role in launching the careers of artists like the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Bruce Springsteen and Elton John. In 1999, the station switched to an all-talk format. The “102.7 Blink†brand debuted in April 2003 marking a return to incorporating music into its format.
Infinity Broadcasting is one of the largest major-market radio operators in the United States, with stations covering the news, modern rock, oldies, country, FM talk, classic rock and urban formats.
