I have always pondered this. He is the scenerio:
In Star Trek, they claim they got rid of money. So this means, no one is rich or poor. obviously this would cause problems. but the driver for the society was to "better themselves morally." So work would be a satifaction, rather than earning money.
Getting rid of money would stop most crimes since you could probably go and just get a mercedes from the dealership, rather than stealing it.
Am I missing anything? Anyone think this could ever work?

are you sure about this?
there is a black market. Cause you can buy "illegal" Romulan ale. Do they work on the barter system?

I think black market type stuff would be if you're dealing with someone who's not in the Federation. Not everyone has given up money (like the Ferengi)...
You'll also notice that everything is pretty much the same for everyone, even people who aren't in Starfleet... you can't compare it to buying a Mercedes - there wouldn't be anything but luxury cars if you didn't have to pay for anything, because no one would choose to drive a piece of crap.
Plus, all travel is probably done by shuttle or transporters.
Don't you mock me with geek comments - I'm not the one who started a Star Trek thread, but I'm a Trek nerd.

So just because you didn't start the thread, you think you're not a geek?

true, i forgot that everyone has the same thing..
The ferengi aren't in the federation so they barter.
So would this really work?? It would get rid of crime. Everyone would get health care.
The only problem I see is motivation. Would people really be motivated to "better themselves"?

What do you do with the people who just want to drink beer and smoke dope all day and not better themselves morally?
If I didn't have to work for money thats what I'd be doing. Would that make me a Kling-on?

I mean Federation People bought Romulan Ale, so they MUST have some form of money....
But I am shocked at this, when was this "no money" revelation made? The original Star Trek was made at the height of the Cold War, and "no money" smells of communism, I can't believe that they would portray such a future.....
it's all about the Latinum baby.

Even though it would probably be a cool world that wasn't centered around the almighty dollar or whatever form of currency there is, it's wouldn't work for me.
I'll admit I'm a lazy person and the idea of working just for the "satisfaction" of work doesn't fly with me.

I first heard it on Voyager. Captain Janeway mentioned it.
I think I could live in this world. I would be able to do what I want without worrying about money. I would want to be a repair handy man.. I always liked repairing stuff, electrical or structural.

Janeway was a man hating lesbian,
she was probably lying. to cover up that her salary was .75$ on the dollar to what Kirk was making.
