Threads moved from Off-Topical & other stupidity
#21
You're allowed to have fun.

You have now simply been directed to a different forum for having the kind of fun you desire.

The threads weren't deleted - they very well could have been - but they were just moved.

How do you figure that changing the location of the fun, is the same as stifling or destroying it? That really makes no fucking sense to me.

Quote:Like I said: it's about the members. And the quicker you realize this, the better. This is what Froy NEVER understood. And it's carrying over.

I could not have been more unbiased or more fair in how I've managed this board thus far.

Edit* FUCK... I gotta' look before I reply. I = Alkey

Okay, for the record, I don't follow anyone. I form my own opinions by what I see and hear. I'm no puppet so let's get that straight off the bat.

You made this statement:
Quote: Per Alkey's statement to me: \"This board is about having fun\".

Yes, the board is supposed to be about fun. Otherwise why would any of us be here in the first place.
I found this statement though as well in another thread,
Quote: This isn't \"by the people, for the people\". And Alkey was the first to say that it isn't.

CDIH is by the people, for the people. That works for them and that's great. I have no problem with that.
YMB on the other hand is not, and was never intended to be that kind of board.

You say it's about the members, but that quote I put up clearly says to me it's not. Not that they aren't needed, but the fact that they aren't allowed to just run around and post anything they what whenever and wherever they want. If they did, there would be total chaos. Kinda like when Ken and SLASH went nuts in OT a few months back.

I fully agree with you when you say,
Quote: Mods and Admin have barely been adding to the board, and if they are, they've only been stirring up pot to their own devices, unless they are arguing with one another...or actually fighting with other drama based on another board.
and
Quote: Make clear sections, clear policy, and be conducive to all posting habits.

Those are both good points and 100% true in my opinion. I can't comment on whether or not the admins and mods made it clear to all of you what they expected on this board. I can only speak about what I was told this place was expected to be. So, I wonder to myself, why is it I was aware of this, but others claim they have no clue what the admins and mods wanted?

All I'm saying is there has to be a middle ground at some point. Everything needs to be put out on the table and CLEARLY specified.
Then those who still don't agree with the rules or refuse to accept any rules offered because they have a, to quote Alkey once more, "rage-against-the-machine" attitude can go to one of the many other boards operating that fit their posting styles. Those who don't have a problem with the way things are run here can stay and have fun.

That's all from me for now. My head hurts from all this thinking. Tongue
Just so you know GIP, I have nothing against you personally. Like you, when I feel strongly about something, I make my opinions known. Hope you don't take any of this as a personal attack bud. Smile

To expand upon that idea, or perhaps clarify it....

GIP's point of the board being all about the members, is a valid one. The board is nothing without its members, and Froy never quite latched on to that.

BUT - that doesn't mean that the members dictate the rules.

Some things require an administrative decision. Sometimes the rules can be made based on the members' desires. Sometimes the administration has to make these rules based on what they think is good for the board.

What you want is basically the equivalent of a cop pulling you over, you blow a .21 on the breathalyzer, and when he goes to arrest you, you can just say, "no, fuck you, I don't really like that law", and you drive off.... and the cop just shrugs and lets you go, cause he can't do anything about it.

Sorry, but we will have, and will enforce, rules.

CDIH has none, and that's fine for them, they do well with it. We're not going to do that. I'm sorry if you don't like it, but that's just how it is.

If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to post here, but please realize that no amount of complaining, bitching, or even civil logical arguments, will change the fact that we're gonna have rules, and enforce them.

Some rules need to be made on-the-fly, when something is identified as a problem that needs to be dealt with. And sorry, but the decision of what is and isn't a problem, is simply not yours to make.

If the "by the people, for the people" style is more your cup of tea, then I certainly won't hold a grudge if you quit posting here, and decide to post there instead. It's your choice. But since you do have that choice, don't fight the power. Don't try to turn this place into what you want it to be, just go to the place that's already what you want this one to be.

Re-visit my drunk driving example. The members don't always make the right decisions, and that's why we have mods/admins. It's not going away, so you might want to, if you don't like it.

Other than the obvious clutter, does it really make a difference in the grand scheme of things if there are 2 bazillion "stupid" threads? I mean, is it a matter of webspace, money, or something? Because unless it's a matter of space or funding, who really cares? Read what you want to read, scroll by the rest. What's the big deal?

Don't you guys have a "behind the scenes" for this type of stuff? Talk about drama. Rolleyes

I know shit about shit. I've never been a mod, nor do I ever wish to be. It would spoil the fun for me and become work as opposed to play.

However being that it's been acknowledged that it's about the members, and I'm one and have been on many, I'm going to throw out my 2 Canadian cents here. Please do not take offense.

If a new member joins, and looks for a way to "fit in", or get with the program, off-topical is always the place. Generic. If your off-topical is dead, your new members will be listed but never play. *denote another board with 5000 members and 10 that post*

If your regular "bored chatters" (I'm hurt FTL), keep the off-topical active with games and silly yet witty banter, I see nothing but a successful forum.

My initial reaction, albeit a little affected by pms, was to quite simply only ever try to move Silera's forum and watch Off-Topical wither and die, as it will, I believe, if you continue to take active and entertaining threads from this forum.

So, silly or not, ymb's moved some very effective threads (effective only ever equals one that moves, end of fucking story) out of one of the most critical forums.

What has been accomplished is that the post-whores, that are the life-blood of the board, no longer feel comfortable nor welcome to banter back and forth in the most comfortable forum, (or hypothetically the most) on the whole board.

And for the record I'm still blown away by the fact that a MODERATOR, on an OPIE AND ANTHONY MESSAGEBOARD, has outright put into written text that they didn't even fucking like them. Ponderous, f-ing ponderous.

Quote:If your off-topical is dead, your new members will be listed but never play.
It was already dead, with the exception of three chat threads. The new members listed already don't play - they see the chat threads and either don't understand or don't care, then don't post.

Quote:What has been accomplished is that the post-whores, that are the life-blood of the board
Whores are not SUPPOSED to be the lifeblood of the board. Quality, not quantity. That was always the general rule of thumb, and it still should be.

Quote:watch Off-Topical wither and die, as it will, I believe, if you continue to take active and entertaining threads from this forum.
OT is supposed to be entertaining to EVERYONE. Chat threads are NOT. They're only entertaining to the people who post in them, the people who are sitting around, usually bored at work. This is not something everyone likes to do. Some people read through these threads and think it's stupid, it's pointless.

Not everyone is into wrestling, so there's a forum for it. Not everyone is into sports, there's a forum for that. NOT EVERYONE IS INTO BULLSHIT CHAT - so now you have a forum to freely do that.

There are ways to post good threads, with topics that people can stay on, without having stupid chats. I find myself using RonFez.net as a great example for this. Make fun of them for being a forced Disneyland, sure, but they do pretty fucking well.
