Jeremy Shockey - Right or Wrong?
#1
By now most of you have probably heard what Jeremy Shockey said about Bill Parcells. Let's not kid ourselves either, he most likely said it no matter how much he denies it. His excuse is a friend was misquoted? Give me a break.

Anyway, I'm curious as to what all of you think of his latest outburst. Personally I like the guy and am damn glad he's on the Giants and not on the other sidelines, but he needs to learn to grow the fuck up. His antics were almost expected the first year being the cocky superstar rookie, but now it's just getting old.

There is a thing called respect and he pretty much spit in Parcells' face with his comments. I don't agree with it at all.

Anyway, here is the link in case you aren't aware of the story.
Shockey calls Parcells a homo

I'm a Giants fan, I'm glad he's on the Giants, I love him as a player. But the guy's a straight up dumbass. All the talent in the world, but the IQ of a pigeon.

Ask Jimmy Williams, Kurt Warner, and Az-Zahir Hakim what a pissed off Roy Williams can do. Though Shockey IS tougher than all those guys...I still hate to see a star player on my team paint a target on himself. Especially when they have a chance to contend for a title, why make an enemy out of a team that basically has nothing to lose?

Guess them Ada, Oklahoma, schools didn't learn 'im too well...

i think everyone says a lot of offhand things and the media blows everything ridiculously out of proportion.

i was at work all day so i didn't know what he said, but i kept seeing the blurb on screen of shockey disses parcells or whatever. but how many times have you talked about someone and said, eh, what a fag, or whatever. so, just because he's good at football he can't have stupid opinions about shit. it's an offhand comment. i have a lot of gay friends and i still refer to people as gay if they do something stupid, we all do. why does anyone give a shit?

Quote: “ Parcells is not my kinda guy. He says he quits then he wants to come back and coach. Do something! Stay in commentary or stay in football or get the hell out of everybody's life. ”

OK this is about the only part I have no problem with. He's got a point. As for the rest of it he's a dumb 22 yr old kid just running his mouth.
I'm not quite there yet

For me it's not the fact that he said this one thing, but more that he's always saying shit. Just play the damn game and stop acting like an immature asshole.
Granted I'm sure they ain't too bright down in Ada, OK but that's no excuse.

Also it's a respect thing. Parcells has done more in this league than Shockey has done in his whole life. I love the guy as a player, but am embarrassed by his constant antics.
If he keeps it up, he will have a bullseye on him like SO said. He may be big and strong, but sooner or later it will catch up to him.

well, if not for the media the players would have nobody to say this shit to. really, these guys are known for their physical abilities, not for being great talkers, so why do we feel the need to watch or read interviews with these sports personalities? but, since we do, we can't complain when they say something stupid can we now.

like some of you have mentioned already, he's a young, 22 year old, cocky kid. i think as he gets older and his mouth writes a few more checks his ass can cash he'll mature and learn to pick his battles. until then you have to kind of take it with a grain of salt and realize where the source of these dumbass comments are coming from.

i actually love him trash talking, its entertaining and it makes him more exciting to watch play. he's a football player not a politician.

I do agree with you there about the media. They tend to blow most things out of proportion and make it sound much worse than it really is.
I personally don't feel the need to read or hear interviews with athletes. I just happened to come across this on ESPN.com and thought it might make for a good discussion.

I may think what he said was stupid and immature, but in the end it doesn't affect me one bit. As long as the guy performs to his ability on the field, then I'm happy. If he starts having hissy fits on the field and risks costing his team games though, then that's another story. No matter what anyone says, he is the future and the model of what a Tight End will be from now on in the NFL. Defenses beware! :o

The kid just needs to grow up and realize that when he's talking to a reporter, he's not talking to a guy he's friends with. You can't just throw around stuff like that.

He's a great football player, I'm just afraid that sooner or later he's going to say something John Rocker stupid.
