HELP! My cable modem is running slower than dialup!
#1
Since Saturday my computer has been running really slow. I've cleaned up temp files, run defrag, gotten rid of unused programs, run virus scan.

The virus scan came up with 6 infected files, but they've been quarantined.

It's literally loading pages slower than dialup and it's making me crazy.

Any ideas?

Comcast? IS it one of those cheapo ones you buy or are you renting their modem. COmcast guy came to our office and said whenever there was a problem that they were swapping out old modems with new ones. That's what he did. DUnno if it applies to all problems though.

Yup, Comcast and it's their modem. I've only had it for a little over a year though. Maybe I should call them and see what they say, since I'm home sick today anyway.

Thats the best bet. At least you'll know whether it is or isn't a problem on their end after that. After the comcast guy left our office we still had a problem and it was time to call in the big guns.

I'd suggest downloading Spybot Search and destroy. It'll will find and get rid of any spyware you may have on your computer, that made mine a whole lot faster.

Yep - that works, and so does Ad-Aware - just make sure you update it every week.

It was my firewall. It has never given me a problem before but now for some reason, if it's enabled, I can't get onto most websites and what I can access moves very slowly.

No really, it's the firewall. Is it bad to have it disabled?
