...but I wonder, if John Kerry somehow won the last election, how much Rush and Hannity and the other propagandists would be screaming about how this is proof that Kerry hates the military.

In the election campaign, they trotted out every military cut as proof that Kerry wanted to sell out our country to Osama so everyone would speak Arabic and bow to Mecca and such. Clinton was the devil for ever signing a bill that closed a military base.

But now this is being praised as the "fiscally responsible" thing to do, even though this saves our country about...two days worth of Iraq Invasion money.
Well, your thread title certainly shows how much faith you have in us other people's interest in the goings-on of our country's military and government.

I for one would rather see more bases being built in the country, and this isn't because I'm a war-mongering chciken hawk. No, it's because our country has been growing at an exponetial rate since its inception, as most of human civilizations have, and because of this, areas that were once towns were cities, and areas that were once cities are now megalopolii. We need to have major military installations near where we have a large portion of our nation's citizens, not just to protect our people, but to offer people the opportunity to have a military career while being able to share ties to a local community, and to increase the support of National Reservists.

Just because we have the Interstate Highway system to ship troops and missles quickly to far off distance, just because computers and automation have taken over jobs that used to go to military personel, and just because we have a shit load of nuclear and majorly explosive ordinace at our disposal does not mean we can make military base closings within our own borders the jumping off point for this administration to start being more "fiscally responsible"; as if the term "fiscally responsible" coming out of the mouth of a government official actually means the same thing that citizens think it means. Base closings are the type of thing only a second termer would ever dare attempt as their way of reigning in the budget.

How can this president dare say he has a mandate from the people when he can get re-elected and then betray the trust of communities who have sent their own children over to Iraq to die? What a fucking scumbag.
