I'm not sure exactly how that works though. I was registered to vote long before Bill ever even got elected. Is it an option? Or, are you automatically registered when you apply for or renew your DL? And, I'm pretty sure it doesn't update, as I have moved and, changed my address at DMV. But, since I didn't move far... same town about a 3/4 mile away... I never bothered to change my voter reg. So, I vote in different building than my wife. Renewed my DL for second time since address change back in June and still voted same place in November.

the motor voter bill was all about getting people to register to vote. which I haven't done. I haven't gotten a new license in years, I only renew my current license. therefore, I am not signed up to vote.

thusly, I don't get called for jury duty. I'm not in the system, because I don't believe in the system. and trust me, if (very big if) I ever get called, I will get out of it.

well, i can't vote because i'm not a citizen, but i recently got mailed a form about jury duty, i didn't get around to sending it back yet though, can i get in trouble for that?

I've only been called once. After rescheduling twice, they wouldn't let me reschedule again. Told the judge the truth, I had a ski trip planned for the end of the week and it was payed for in advance. If I didn't go I'd lose the deposit. He let me go.

I have a friend who is also an engineer. He got off becasue lawyers don't like engineers. One didn't want him right away, the other didn't after he kept questioning the lawyers logic during questioning (and he was right, the lawyer was wrong). He asked the lawyer who dismissed him right away why he did it. The lawyer said he doesn't like engineers becasue they can't be swayed. Engineers take the facts and make their own conclusions. Regular people can be convinced to take the lawyers interpretation of the facts.

I can't remember everything the judge said about how they select potential jurors (it was 4 or 5 years ago) but, there was more than one source. I believe he said something about voter registration, driver's licenses, selective service and, social security/tax records being cross referenced.

This also explains why some people get "called" more often than others. If your name isn't spelled exactly the same on each of these. For instance middle inicial or Jr. Sr. suffix included on one and not on another.

One sure fire way of getting out of jury duty... Join your local volunteer fire or first aid squad. All volunteer fire & 1st aid members are exempt form jury duty in NJ. Obviously this can be even more annoying and time consuming than jury duty to begin with but, if you really don't want to be a juror...

God I wish I was on the jury with afrika as defendant, I'd pull a 12 angry men on that one.

He asked if you had a VALID one. Renewing you license would qualify as having a valid license and yes they are very much updating on how they get names for jury duty. One of them is having a valid license.

As far as saying the cop arrested me or I knew him, I thought of it. But all they do is send you back and you have to wait for a new case to try for. This case should be done by tommorow or friday the latest anyway so it's pretty sweet.

But the guys not getting any nod from me, first off he looked like a suspect instead of a cop. He's about 6' 2" and weighs close to 90 pounds with half of his teeth missing. To top it off he has a fuckin mullet, a latino crackhead with a mullet. Plus the fucker wants over a million for his injuries cause his life is in shambles. Ask to see a picture of his wife. I bet ten bucks that sex is on a down swing with her cuz she is 5'2 and wieghs 250 somewhat pounds. She is probally a hideous bitch that no person in thier right mind would fuck. Unless, of course, she showed up to an OA party, then, she would be fair game.

uh... that doesn't work.

It doesn't always get you excused from the case and, they get pretty pissed off when you LIE to them.

Also, if it does get you excused from that case, it ONLY gets you excused from THAT case. You go back to the room with the rest of the idiots that thought they could beat the system and, sit there twiddling your thumbs all week. Instead of at least getting to watch a trial and, fuck with someone's life.

I got called once while I was at college. So I got it out of it since I was in school. But then when I went to take some graduate courses back up here in Cleveland, I couldn't get my stipend (for the credits) because I wasn't registered with Selective Service....apparetly the controlling body related to jury duty selection (and whether or not I could ever be drafted should the draft be reinstated). So, with that whole cluster fuck in place....I moved into another city, registered to vote there, let the school handle my Selective Service issues, and lived happily ever after.

Genius I mentioned that, lol. It may get you excused from sitting on that jury. But then you have to go back to the waiting room and wait to be called for a different case. Plus they know most any trick you can pull, you might be asked where you know this person from. They don't give you any particulars on the person like an address so you'd have a tough time saying you grew up with him. If you don't get called to sit on a jury after 2 complete days then you are excused but you can listen up to 8-12 cases in those two days so more likely than not you will sit on one.

Is that NJ? Because I thought in NY it's if you don't get called in two days, your excused OR if you are interviewed for two juries and aren't picked your excused.

I get called every other year...I 've been called for jury duty 4 times...never once having my juror number called. It's usually a good time for me to do some reading.

NJ is a minimum of 2 days service.

DGW, as I explained previously, juror selection is based on cross referenced lists from multiple sources. You must be one of the lucky folks that his name spelled just different enough on 2 or more of these source's data bases.

If I remember correctly, once you have served (whether you actually sat on a jury or you were excused) you are then exempt from jury duty for three years. So, if you're being called every year... you shouldn't have too much trouble getting out of it.

I was called while away in college. I was obviously exempt because I was an out of state full time student. But, I was then recalled every year until I graduated. So, if you get out of it... you don't necessarily go to the bottom of the pile.

I actually don't mind jury duty. I usually make a few friends during the two day debacle. Plus when I'm not at work my boss is the only one who can do my job. So it's nice to come back and hear him complain of how busy he was. Then I get to tell him I go through it everyday.

Just throw the jury duty notice out. Works everytime.

Once excused or after you sit on a jury, you are exempt from being called for 4 years now. It used to be 2 but they upped it. I didn't mind it much truthfully, I got a week off from work. Did some reading, met a few people. Got to screw over a skinny spic with a mullet and missing teeth. Who looked like he was on the show cops as a suspect instead of actually being a cop.
