i just moved into a new apartment, it's a basement apt. i smoke, alot, and the landlord has already said after 1 day that he can smell the smoke upstairs. the landlord is my friend and co-worker and really don't want to piss him off. what can i do to get rid of the cigarette smelll before it enters the rest of the house?
Smoke outside, you rude bastard.
Is the ceiling in the basement drywall or is it a hung ceiling?
Purchase a vaporizer for your tobacco and buy scented candles.
There's nothing you can do, especially if it's a hung ceiling. If it's nice or if you just desperately need the place, the burden is on you to be a good tenent to your friend and colleague. Anything you try is going to be more complicated than just going outside. Lighting candles/incense (just a another smell permeating the floor), using a spoof (damn silly in practice and appearence), smoking by an open window (just circulates it back into the house), etc.
Google it and maybe some Genie will appear
Get one of them transporters like in star trek and beam the smoke out of the house
Like Danked said... a hung ceiling is your enemy in this battle. Having drywall would cover the first floor joists of your landlord's house and would seal off much of the smoke from escaping into the cracks between the floorboards/ plywood. Hung ceiling is just 3/8" piece of foam, cork, or sound dampening gypsum in a grid, with plenty of crevices for the smoke to escape up to the joists. I'm guessing your apartment isn't in NYC, where tenencies are required to have one hour fire seperations between one another
yeah right, what are you some kind of fucking architect or something?
no, he just plays one on the internet
yeah all you got to do is fix the jig boom joist plumb bob bippilty
smoke outside. smoking in your apt is not a god-given right when you rent.
smoke in your apartment and act like a man! FREEEEDDOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!
