I bought my computer a few years ago and it came with a CD Writer and DVD drive. Recently, the CD drive conked out, but since the DVD drive doesn't burn either DVDs or CDs I'd like to pick up a replacement that can handle and burn both. Does anyone have any recommendations or things to look out for when I'm shopping?

Plextor drives kick ass, and if you don't care about the drive being black (instead of beige) they've got a solid drive for $100 after $50 rebate. Any DVD writer will also write cd's, and I've had nothing but success with Plextor drives.
My computer face is black actually, so that's a plus.
excellent! My good deed for the day is done, now I can spend the rest of the day clubbing baby seals to death.
There seem to be a few complaints about the slot loading Plextor drives, but thank you for helping me to narrow down my search a bit.
i've got the lite-on one.. it was $60 when i got it.. and it came with the black and white face plate. works just fine for me.
mines a tray, slot loaders can be problematic overall because of the disc-jam potential but I've never had one.
