the only people to benefit from legalizing drugs would be the government so they can tax the shit out of it like they do cigarettes and alcohol. and if you do how are you going to distribute the drugs? prescriptions?? then insurance companies will be paying out more money to a) cover the cost of the "drug" prescriptions, like they do now with health beneficial medicines and b) payments to doctors who will have patients by the dozens or hundreds who want a marijuana perscription to alleviate their pain. If you make these OTC drugs there is going to be a large increase in shoplifting and the way retail gets money back from shoplifting is to raise retail prices on everything else.
As for legalizing drugs making them less expensive than they are now, no way. drug companies that charge 10-50 bucks a pill to create a hard-on will look to maxamize their profit as much as possible with the cost being put on the consumer and the aforementioned health insurance companies. that is if they decide to cover these drugs at all

I agree with galt a little, cause in reality it was "easy" to switch, it was just the will to actually do it. It's not easy as in the effort to completely change your life but in essence the change is simple.
Eat well and exercise and do it not as a diet but a lifestyle change, it shouldn't be a chore, it should just be the way life should be. I totally enjoy it now, I cant wait to go to the gym everyday, I love not feeling like a sloth and constantly bloated, I dont feel the need or desire to eat at all, except just to get the necessary nutrients. I don't look to food as pleasure anymore, I look to being healthy as pleasure. So in its simplest form, Galt is correct, its a conscious decision to get off your ass.
But I disagree with how simple he makes it sound, no one wants to be fat, no one chooses to just a be a lazy slob. There are many contributing factors, be it depression, anxiety, anger, whatever. But in a fat persons case, food manifests pleasure to them. Just like getting drunk is what cures an alcoholics woes.
Alcoholics say that the issue isnt one drink, the issue is wanting 12 drinks. Alcoholics can't fathom how one can just have 1 drink, or leave half a beer on the table. Just as I couldnt get how people leave half a plate of food at the restaurant. It is totally a disease, it's an illness that requires the will to overpower your deepest desires, just like with any addiction.
It is easy for me to say, what a fuckin disgusting alcoholic, why doesnt he just stop drinking. But life is not that simple, if it was then half of this country wouldn't be fat, it's not a small group of people anymore, fat people will soon be the majority.
For me it was many reasons and honestly, health is one of them but not the top reason, I just wanna look and feel good, thats really my main goal.

who said anything about prescriptions? You don't need a prescription for booze or cigarettes.
And your "shoplifting" doesn't hold water becuase then the same thing would be happening with booze and cigarettes.
Prices falling is pure economics. If it were legal, the market would be flooded with competitors, the value chain's costs would be transparant, and so specialists in an industry segement would become most efficient with the cheapest price and steal all the market share. The product would be of higher quality for a cheaper price. Sure, eventually there would be consolidation like there is in any market, but there will always be competition, and prices would fall as a result.

The market would not be flooded with competitors inintially because there would be 1 or 2 companies that would get the "patent" on these drugs depending on if they did or didn't play ball with the government. No other patents would be allowed at initial offering and those companies interested would have to wait the requisite time to reapply. You are talking about what could potentially become a multi-BILLION dollar industry here. If you think this government or any government is going to let that kind of money just slip through there hands by letting every single company who wants to compete compete and driving prices down to next to nothing then you're kidding yourself.
and since when do people not steal booze????????
11-28-2006, 05:09 AM
patent? what the fuck are you talking about? There are 10 million beers out there and hundreds of cigarettes.
11-28-2006, 05:13 AM
so what do you think will happen, drugs will be legalized and the next day walmart is going to come out with packages of cocaine on the shelf right next to the aspirin?

and fine forget the patent. In order to sell alcohol or cigarettes you need a license. The market would not be flooded with competitors inintially because there would be 1 or 2 retailers in each region that would get the LICENSE to sell these drugs depending on if they did or didn't play ball with the government. No other licenses would be allowed at the initial offering and those companies interested would have to wait the requisite time to reapply. More believable now?

Well there is no argument that legalzing drugs would be a multi-billion dollar industry. Naturally costs would drop drastically for many reasons, the top 2 being: 1. it's no longer illegal, 2. competition. I still don't see how you can legally sell coke, heroin, etc. These items are too tough to legalize, though bastardized forms could be pushed, I doubt selling street level coke will go over well. Weed is a different story. Weed wouldn't rival the cigarette companies because in the end people will still not really take up weed just cause it's legal, you may get a few but pretty much anyone who wants to smoke, will smoke. Just like legalizing gay marriage wont create faggots, as much as conservaties want you to believe that.
But there are still billions to be made from legalizing weed.
But even better would be legalizing prostitution. Makng these whores get licensed, regulation, plus it would drive costs down, make bitches do more kookier shit to attract you, life would be good!!! I think marriage may be eliminated all together and the worlds problems may be solved overnight.

that should be legal too.
When I am old and move to Nevada and become governor, I will legalize prostitution in Vegas, and drugs in the whole state.
I will be the new Bunny Colvin.
