The agent for free agent pitcher Mark Mulder said that the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers and St. Louis Cardinals are the three finalists for the injured left-hander, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported Friday.
He's not available to pitch until June, rehabbing from shoulder surgery.
we'll prob snare Jeff Weaver or someone of that ilk to eat innings.
I think that's a great move. Weaver in New York. What could go wrong?
weaver in national league in new york, big difference.
i also dont think zito signing with the giants means the yankees wont trade johnson
boras says the yankees didnt even make an offer for him.
they were offered Zito for 7 years $17 million and turned it down.
No one else offered over $100 million. The Mets paid upwards of $130 (including the buyout), so go Omar.
And the Yankees weren't going to sign Zito until they could trade Johnson anyway.
I really don't think Johnson is going anywhere, if he is, the Yanks better get something that will help this year, because their pitching stinks and he had a decent year (underlying stats, he was unlucky with ERA)
they could still sign clemens and get prospects from the dbacks.
from metsblog.com...
In the Star-Tribune, Patrick Reusse believes the Twins will now end up trading LHP Johan Santana after next season, thanks to Barry Zito’s $126 million deal with the Giants.
…santana will be 28 years old after next season, like zito was this off-season, he’s lefty like zito and better than zito…i can only imagine what he will ask for, and the twins are certain to not give it to him…if santana hits the trade market after next season, or this coming trade deadline should the twins be out of contention, i would have to think the Mets would jump to their feet…
Johnson is gone. That's five runs a game I won't miss.
being in the nl and having a better defense behind him will help a lot
yeah, down to 4 runs a game.
also the nl west is pretty bad and those teams have pretty crappy offenses
