faceman802 Wrote:I would like to congratulate mad and jays for taking this thread somewhere I never thought it could go. I'm thinking that, like most things, rubber sidewalks are more practical in theory than in actual practice. The cost to "rubberize" a whole city would be astronomical, let alone the time it would take to actually do. The tearing up of the sidewalks would take forever, hauling away of the concrete, preparing to put down the new sidewalk...it's a long process I would think. Now any contractor worth his weight is going to take his time doing this because he is going to get paid a shitload of money. that is unless you are going to let the dpw do it and that's going to cause more problems in the long run.

Sidewalks and pavement evetually has to be torn up. It's a regular cycle, and with trees that have been growing for more than 20 years, along with weather, potholes, patching, sewer connections, electrical work, all pavement needs a complete do-over every 10-20 years. It's going to be easier to repair, and it's not going to involve tar like asphalt or mr. "i take 28 days to fully cure" concrete. It's gonna take a better pounding, and like dru said, better for walking and excercise. I'm sure skating will be just as dope.

They could run PEX tubing under the rubber sidewalk heated with solar heated water and no one would have to shovel said sidewalk.

Mad and I are on the same plane of vision.
why arent they fucking doing this?????

Ok I've checked this out on the website and i've got a job for you keyser....when the weather gets not as frigid you gotta go to 108 14th st. in hoboken and check out the rubber floor in front of a tree out there. http://www.rubbersidewalks.com/currentIn...tions.aspx here is the site of current installations, go down the page to the hoboken pics, find it in real life and give us a report.
