OAS, what the hell are you talking about?
The fact that they have no manufacturing or research facilities, blah blah blah, that is the destructive technology we were talking about.
I don't understand the point you are trying to make.
I was in the process of writing a long memo clarifying what destructive technology means and why HP et al didn't capitalize.
But bah

I'll summarize it for you Galt, HP/Compaq made more money by letting Dell take market share than by trying to compete with them head on. MBA wanna be's, jeeezuz.
The actual slogan Gonzo is, Dude, your getting a HP in Dell clothing.

If HP had seen the distruptive technology arising, they could have cut Dell off.
That's the point.
Not saying that any of them lost money because of it.
FYI. Dell vs HP, Compaq, IBM is the go to example of disruptive technologies per the Harvard prof who coined the phrase.

But if HP had cut Dell off, HP would not have been able to spin off Agilent and make a fortune having Agilent sell parts to Dell. I'm sorry I don't have MSpaint or I would draw you a picture.

yes, I'm sure that HP would have made less money selling the entire computer to consumers than selling components to Dell.
