Well, it seems we are on the brink yet again. Our goverment is claiming that Iraq has developed "dirty" nuke bombs and the shit is ready to hit the fan for round two of Bush vs. Sadam. Problem is, this time around, we are seeing some pretty heavy opposition from other major world powers.China seems dead set on shitting on any move we as a country make on this issue.

Can we sucessfuly solve this issue with only polotics? Is the UN strong enough to make them do anything at this point?

Also, if China continues to side with Iraq and we do take military action, are we on the brink of World War III?
"Mother of all wars" did not mean that this was going to be a big war, but rather a war that would spawn off many more wars. The Great War did not end on Nov 11, 1911, but rather on *** ##, 1945.
I don't really follow the news... Does Bush Jr have a real issue with them? Or is it more about finishing what Daddy didn't?

And China is a pain in the ass anyway. Their thumb is too heavy on their people, holding them down.
Politics is not going to solve this issue, and from what I've been hearing, the US is not afraid to act alone. We'd prefer to act with our allies, but we're not afraid to act alone. The main focus of this country now is not international politics and relations, rather it is the public and their perceptions.

We're going to war....

Strategicly, they can be a very dangerous enemy in a war fought in the middle east. Also, they are a world power and may be the first of many to side with Iraq.

As far as Bush, Iraq has been finding ways around weapons inspection for almost ten years now and Georgie is pretty quick to link them with the 9/11 attacks. A friend of mine told me yesterday that he believes this is being done to cover up the fact that our "War On Terror" is a complete and utter failure. I thought about this for a second then recalled that this was coming from the same Asshole who drank out of a beer can that was used as an ash tray for 5 bucks so I disregarded him.
China is not a threat in the Middle East. They don't have a navy capable of posing a threat to the U.S. And there's a lot of land between Iraq and China. Lot's of countries that aren't going to let a couple million armed Chinese march through.

The U.S. is fully capable of taking care of Iraq alone. It's more of a political thing. Especially when it comes to establishing the new government like what we are trying to do in Afghanistan now.

And, it could mean getting our troops tied down in both Afghanistan and Iraq doing peace keeping and nation building when another crisis comes up. If we were stuck there, and say, North Korea invades South Korea, we could have a serious problem.
Our war on terror is not a failure, people are only percieving it as such because they expected Bin Ladens head to be handed over to them on a platter. Bush said that this was a different type of war, and it has proven to be. Iraq as well as Iran are dangers to this country, but what Bush fails to realize is that Saudi Arabia is a danger to us as well. During his State of the Union, he said "you're either with us or against us" and I have a feeling there's going to be more against us than we're used to.

I think China may be an issue, but I think if the US placed trade embargos, etc. they might quiet down and let us do what needed to be done.

Being capable and actually acting are two differeent storries. We have been on "pause" in this shit with Iraq for almost a decade.

Quote:China is not a threat in the Middle East.

No offense, Dent, but, I probally would have agreed with you on this up to almost a year ago. China is itching to swing thier dicks in a real life game of "Risk".
China has wanted to for years. If they really want to fuck with us, all they have to do is invade Taiwan. We have treaties with Taiwan and supply and train their military. We would be forced to respond and China would have it's war.

Right now, they won't because they don't have the navy to challenge us. It would end similar to the Falkland Islands war. Britain's subs sunk one Argentine ship and the whole Argentine navy tucked tail and hid in port for the rest of the war. And then the British harriers owned the sky. The Argentine troops were cut off from supplies and were doomed from that point on.

China has nukes and outnumbers us by better than 100 to 1. That's their strength. We could never take China now the way Japan did in WWII.

If we end up in a war with China, it will either be over Taiwan, or China helping North Korea invade South Korea.
Hmm, election's coming up...

I don't understand why George II is pushing soooooo hard for this.

Iraq most likely does not hold any threat against us currently. According to experts, both the capacity to manufacture nuclear weapons and the capability of delivering them are lacking. This assessment has been confirmed by sources as diverse as Former Defense Secretary William S. Cohen, current Secretary of State Colin Powell and former UN arms inspector Scott Ritter. I believe these men before I'll listen to Shrub or Cheney. Saddam's smart in that he won't fuck with us if we don't fuck with him. Notice how they've taken Colin Powell out from the public eye? He's vehemently against this.

This is an excellent article that sums up my feeling about all this

Honestly, I think Iraq is an issue, but we're ignoring the bigger issue of Saudi Arabia, I think ten of the hijackers were Saudi nationals...."ally" or not, there's something wrong with that picture.
Iraq is for sure a threat but i dont see the threat to the point of having to attack at this moment in time. Little Bush wants to attack to make up for his daddies mistake and is doing all that he can to justify this attack. China will not attack because as has been said they dont have the navy and also they may have a huge ass army but their technology is year behind ours and we would give them a nice ass wooping once we got our act together. Saudi Arabia is for sure a problem country esspecially due to the fact that alot of the highjackers came from there.

The UN at this point doesnt have much power any more. It is basically just a body for debating and doesnt have the power to back any of its decisions. Even if the UN was to say no to a attack on Iraq there is nothing that they can do to stop it. But if we were to attack it would for sure cause instability in the region and could resonate for many years to come and may bring us more problems than solutions. Turkey is against this because of the kurds who will then try to get their own state in the south east of turkey and they do not like this.

Overall i believe we should just sit back and do the diplomatic route because Saddam wont do anything that will cause us to attack he talks a big game but is just a pussy. We do though need to do somthing about Saudi ARabia and I belive what we have to do is stop supplying them with American goods and everything will change there in a matter of weeks if not days.

Just my 2 cents
Is Iraq really a threat? It's a good question. A lot of politicians in our own congress and from both parties say no. If not now, will they be in the near future?

What threat does Iraq really pose?

well, if Saddam gets nukes or other weapons of mass destruction he may use them. He's already shown a desire to seize more land. His only motivation is power and getting more power. It's not religious or political. And he will ally himself with anyone who can help him get more power. And that would include Al Queda who he will remember as winning the Afghan War against the Soviet Union.

I think there's a lot of information that isn't being made public.

Obviously. Also, from my understanding (I could be wrong) Congress does not know every minute detail about the situation either. I think after the Congressional leaks after 9/11 there is more scrutiny regarding who posesses information.
Iraq really isn’t a threat at the moment, but they could be if they get a hold of nukes. I do not know if Sadaam would use them, but I do think he would use them as a bargaining tool to get more land and power. Saudi Arabia is an iffy threat along with some of the other countries in the region, because the only reason they do what they do is because they are scared of the other military powers in the region. (I mean military powers to them not us) So there is no telling what they would do if they had the proper motivation. Even though their military might is something to laugh at they could do a lot damage suicide bombing or what not
I also wouldn’t even worry about China unless they have nukes in space that could knock out our power and disrupt our information flow. Since I don’t think they have that going for them what is a billion swinging dick china men going to do with two oceans between them and us and no navy to back them? I’ll tell you what they are going to do bitch and FUCKING MOAN like every other country is doing.
I say fuck it and go to war. We need to clean the people house and by that I say we take the useless ingrates that live off of good hard working people and the homeless off the streets, train them, give them guns, and drop them off in that desert to kill or be killed.
Confuseduicide:
Congress members are a bunch of bumble fucks they always leak info its ridiculuous they could be told the details of our operation in iraq knowing full well that it meant people's lives if it was leaked and they would go ahead and leak it anyway...
The war on terror has been a fucking joke I think. Bush has been a whole lot of talk and no action. His war on terror has consisted of bigger delays in the airports, and the bailing out of companies that are too cheap to pay for the war on terror. Basically he said here is what has to be done, they come back and say we can't do it we need money, he says fine. Bingo. National debt raised yet again. Also, The Iraq thing is just some way for him to prove his worth at hopes of re-election. He probably figures, well, my father couldn't kill Saddamm, If I do it, they will love me. The fucking bush duo just needs to be eliminated. I wouldn't want to fuck with China. there are milions of chinks over there who would do anything their government tells them and there are very deep in the military. Good old GWB just likes to run the country his own way, like Bloomberg likes to do with the city... :fuckoff:
Well put corps!

So, take societies rejects and give them guns and the knowledge of how to kill lots of people? hate to see what happens when they come back.
