He'd have done it better than I could ever dream of.
I never really liked Daniel day Lewis that much and Dicaprio was good in basketball diaries and gilbert grape but since then I've hated him, the cast is making me weary of seeing it.
wary not weary. :disappointed:
sorry captain spell check.
apology accepted private numbskull
Saw it, liked it except for two things
a) The violence was so over the top, it almost became cartoonish at times.
b) The ending nearly made me barf, such a fucking cheap attempt at plucking your heartstrings. Scorsese should be shot for resorting to such a cheap tactic.
Other than that it was a good movie, Daniel Day Lewis should win an oscar for this, he carried the movie, DiCaprio pulled off a decent job, I didn't expect much, the accent was too forced but other than that it was a good movie....I am suprised how poorly it did this weekend, I knew it had no chance against LotR, but 4th fucking place? I hope word of mouth helps this movie because other than a few ultimatly minor complaints it's a fantastic movie.
i agree with Gomez.
Scorcese, like Oliver Stone, is in love with himself. His films consistently suffer from it. Watch Catch Me If You Can to see how subtle a director can be (spielberg). Daniel Day-Lewis did a fantastic job of acting. Leonardo didn't have a whole Hell of alot to work with b/c the script was so ham-handed on the personal relationships. This movie tris to do too much...give the revenge tale and Leo's focus, while also giving a sense of the times and New York. B/C of this. it kind of flutters around on focus, and the main story suffers. Scorcese is losing his characters by trying to do too much...and if he's going to focus on events...it needs to remain on the event on the focus.
Still a good flick in my book, though.
I loved the movie but felt the ending was rushed. Daniel Day Lewis is excellent in this movie. See it just for DDL. I heard Deniro was originally supposed to play his role but could not due to scheduling conflicts. Deniro is one of my favorite actors but I don't know if he could have done a better job, DDL was never a big favorite of mine either but after seeing him in Gangs, he's got a new fan. Seriously, go see it just for Bill The Butcher. Great fucking villian.
Excellent flick despite a rushed ending.
I just saw it tonight, I thought it was good, but also thought the love story was a little stupid. During the "love scenes" the guy in front of us kept grunting, it was disturbing.
