He is, he loves J'Lo
Saw it.
I mean.. I wouldn't be who I am if it weren't for these books (ok, AND Star Wars)
Will be seein it again Thursday or Friday.

SPOILERS!! (well.. not REALLY, but close)

Gollum: GREAT!! (both voice acting, animation and believability, he's NOT Jar Jar!)
Gimli: More slapstick humor than the first (which could be a bad thing, I'm still debating on it)
Remainder of Fellowship: As they should be
Newly introduced important characters: Well done
Effects: GREAT!
Eye candy: Between settings and creatures more than enough

Jackson has again shifted the ending of the film so that it doesn't exactly match the book(s), whereas in Fellowship he stole the opening for Towers, in Towers he's saved the finale for the opening of Return of the King. Yep, no Flotsam and Jetsam, no Shelob, until next year.
i loved it

*KINDA SPOILERS*

-gollum was great and i felt really sad when he was talking to "himself" in those scenes.
-those battles were crazy. that explosion left me in awe, but i dont understand why the fuck the legolas' accuracy all of a sudden sucked as soon as its detrimental.
-treebeard was cool, and that whole scene at isengard was amazing.
-the last hour could have possibly been the greatest hour of action in a movie ever.
-gandalf coming over the hill and into battle was so cool.

Now THAT's dedication

I'm waiting until I can coordinate with the kids (I gotta raise them right), but I did read the reviews.

Yeah, that's what I read - and he took other small liberties - but in his hands it seems responsible.

It's really great to have a geeky movie that you look forward to actually be a quality production.
Think of how many times in the past you heard a comic, game, or book was being made into a movie, and it turned out to really suck ( or be only ok)?

Now you just need to wait until next year to see how it ends.. :-p
There may be SPOILERS in my post

Lucas should watch this movie and learn how to do computer generated creatures, it was amazing how organic Gollum was in the movie, not once did he feel out of place or fake, which is usually the problem with having a generated character.

The movie did not feel long at all, the first one I felt dragged at times, it was still amazing, but this second one never felt boring.

John Rhys Davies has once again proven that he is simply an amazing actor, had he not had his few lines during the battle scenes they might not have been as enjoyable....My only problem was WHY THE FUCK WAS HE TREEBEARD? I know he has a good voice, but it's too goddamn distinctive, it just annoyed the Hell out of me.

If I hear one complaint about the ending of this movie I'm going to punch that person in their stupid face. The ending left you fulfilled, but still eager to see what happens next, which is EXACTLY how it should end, which was a complaint with the first film.

I'm sure I'll have more to say later, but I'm still a bit in awe, that was quite possiblly some of the finest work ever put on film

are you sure? I haven't seen TT yet, but...
Quote:Gimli, the stout-hearted axe-man who comes to represent the Khazad, the dwarves of Middle-earth, played by John Rhys-Davies
He's also the voice of Treebeard, it annoyed the Hell out of me because his voice is so Damn unique.
didnt the shots were you see pippin and merry riding treebeard look like claymation from the 60's? he was bobbing up and down as he walked. it looked funny
Yeah.. kinda. But I know Jackson was very serious about visually implying the.. slight inflexibility of the Ents
**************SPOILERS***************************

I just came back from seeing TT, and while it was great, there were more variations from the book than in Fellowship, and more than I was led to believe by the reviews.
Most of the changes were no biggie (Aragorn falling over the cliff, Scenes with Arwen, who isn't in the TT book, Elvish archers at helm's deep), but the one change that REALLY bothered me was with Faramir. In the book, he never attempts to take the ring to Gondor - that's what separates him from Boromir, and brands him for what he will become. In the movie, he too falls to temptation to try and use the evil thing for good. I felt this was a significant change done for drama sake that was unnecessary.

But that's just me......
over all, I give it :thumbs-up:
Played hookey and saw the 3 oclock today. Fucking outstanding. I thought Gollum looked a little more fake than he should have. In fact, I think it's funny that Gomez brought Jar Jar, because that's exactly the parallel I made, talking to my friends. I didn't much like the way the Ents looked either. The two hobbits riding on Treebeard reminded me of the driving scene from Airplane (or was it Airplane II). Once the Ents threw down and started whupping on Isengard, my opinion went way up.

Other than that, the dialog, action, eye candy, adherance to the story (and the few liberties taken), all left me with a warm fuzzy.
Quote:but the one change that REALLY bothered me was with Faramir.
Yeah.. that WAS a little annoying.. Tolkien makes a point of demonstrating how Boromir is more akin in attitude and values to the Rohirrim, whereas the blood of Numenor bred true in his younger brother.

Oh, and I have to disagree with Gollum looking fake comment... the closest you can say is he looked too.. plasticy.. but considering that he's suppossed to be a creature at home in muck and slime.. much like a frog.. the sheen to his skin was, I'm sure, entirely intentional.
Even if you thought Gollum looked a little fake, you have to admit the way the interaction with the characters worked was awesome. To take the Jar Jar example, it always annoyed me because it was so obvious that characters were talking to a blank screen, always sort of forcing out their lines, but Gollum seemed to fit into the movie, rather than pasted in.
I'm going to see it tonight. Can't wait. Any good movie previews though?
IF the previews are the same as at opening, Hell YES!!

Here's the 4 really interesting ones I saw (in relative order)

T3
X2
Bruce Almighty
When Harry Met Lloyd (Dumb and Dumber..er)
T3?
our previews included X2 (looked good, especially juxtaposing Ian MacKellen as Magneto with later as Gandalf), and the Dumb & Dumber prequel (really didn't show anything, do didn't thrill me.).

There was also some Vin Diesel movie as a cop (I think it was called About A Man, but I could be wrong) that could be good or could be typical crap.

If Possible Teen, I'd definitely recommend going to a GOOD theater. I saw it in Stadium theater, with great sound and it was amazing. I used the voucher and got free ticket without problem. (well, there WAS a problem, but that was because the girl selling tickets was an idiot - instead of using the voucher for an adult ticket she used it for a childs ticket). Thursday at 7pm showing theater was about 85-90 full; when we left at 10:15, the line for the 11 showing was out the door.

Oh and Gomez, I forgot to say I agreed about Treebeard -John Rhys-Davies (Gimli/voice of Treebeard) in NY Times although uncredited on web site - He is too distinctive to be the voice of 2 characters. I don't know why they couldn't get someone else to do Treebeard's voice over.

And by the way, Divx already out for those who care......
thanks I can't wait for the previews too. I saw the t3 preview. It was on access hollywood this week. Looks awesome. Yeah I am going to a good theater and got my free movie voucher too.
Quote:And by the way, Divx already out for those who care......
I care. :-o
care and need.

Not going to stop me from going to the theatre, though
Quote:Not going to stop me from going to the theatre, though

I don't have a problem paying to see a worthwhile movie, especially in a good theater. I paid to see this, I paid for Fellowship and bought the DVD even though I had the divx.

It's the crap I don't pay for.
