the T3 trailer is up at
apple.com. I think it looks ok, but not having James Cameron behind this movie makes me fell it has a huge potential to suck.
I hope to see TTT tomorrow afternoon, I've got so much shit going on this weekend though...
just got back...my fucking god, i need to change my underwear now.
SPOILERS
mohatma gollum was one of the funniest things ever when he argued with himself. the faramir thing sucked, though. and magoo, the elven general wasnt anybody, right? he was made for the movie?

AFAIK, there were no elves (except Legolas) at Helm's deep in Tolkein's original...

ok...just what i thought. but it was possible elf dude was somebody from rivendell or lorien and i just didnt remember him. i was hoping it was glorfindel, but i know that wasnt the name he was called
To answer the question..
I'm actually uncertain... I'm a year behind in my reading so certain specifics escape me at the moment.. BUT..
The "Eleven general" was Haldir.. in the books one of the border gaurds that captured the company outside of Lothlorien in Fellowship... Jackson probably decided to include him as a low-level familiar face.. much as he combined Glorfindel's part at the Ford with the role of Arwen (primarily to avoid an overabundance of characters... AND paychecks..).
As far as the Elves reinforcing the Rohirrim.. Pete is both correct in that there were no elves.. and incorrect in that the Rohirrim who rode from Edoras DID receive reinforcements
Jackson is, I believe, having the Elves who reinforce the Mark in the film fulfill two roles from the book.
First.. the Riders who leave Edoras are reinforced prior to reaching Helm's deep.. Eomer and his riders meet up with them before the Warg attack. It is, in fact, Erkenbrand and local militia/riders Gandalf leads into the fray, not Eomer.
Second.. later, in Return of the King, after Gandalf confronts Saruman in Isengard, the Rangers of the North, accompanied by Elrond's sons Elladan and Elrohir, come to join Aragorn in his march to Gondor... (and to deliver his flag, sewn by Arwen)
I THINK Jackson brought the "elves" to Helm's deep to fill the role of the Rangers later in the story, and to free up Eomer's company to take Erkenbrand's place.. less character's.. and explaining how the Dunadan (Rangers and men of Gondor) are the descendants of Half-Elves who choose to be mortal.. the oft referred to "blood of Kings" or "high men", and that the Ranger's of the North acted as gaurdian of both Isildur's bloodline AND the untamed tracks beyond Gondor's borders.. MIGHT take a bit too long to explain in the movies.
Remember Jackson's going to have to take some creative liberties, but he'll still try to remain true to the spirit of the story... I hope...

He didn't.
If I had never read the books, I probably would love the LOTR movies. As it is, I prefer Tolkien's LOTR that he spent 50 years perfecting over Peter Jackson's big budget interpretation for the masses. Gollum was cool, good use of CGI...the fact that he turned Faromir completely around from what he is supposed to be is inexcuseable. The almost total abandonment of the mythology that made the books so great was really depressing.
But yeah, nice special effects... :crackhead:
For those who haven't seen it, again we have a
********************spoiler alert *****************************

THAT's why I couldn't find them when I did a quick check....
( I was going to put some disclaimer about waiting for Magus to give "official" answer - but thought it might sound condescending - after reading his response I probably should have risked it )
Maybe I noticed it more, but there seemed more changes here. Only the change in Faromir really annoyed me. That seemed to be a significant change, and it also lead to the scene were Frodo looks about to give the ring to the Nazgul, which is IMO questionable.
Ent sequences were changed, but I guess that didn't translate too well. Better than when they left out Tom Bombadil completely.
I also don't remember any of Aragorn telling Arwen to leave - that seemed a little forced way to attract women to the movie.
Guys... I may be hallucinating but wasn't that 'Elven General', Celeborn? I'm almost positive it was. Thats what freaked me out. Right now I'm still kinda runnin crazy on percs to give my opinion on the movie, but to sum it up I still thought it kicked ass. More to come.
it wasnt. they said the name, but i just dont remember what it was. i know it wasnt somebody important
Anyone interested, this site lists pretty much the entire cast and who they played
Two Towers

none seem to be complete. This doesn't list voice of Treebeard, which so far I've only seen the NY Times list (Davies, as you pointed out).
This is a case where it would have been nice if divx releases captured entire credits (which cam screeners never do) in order to get whole credits.

Trust me.. it was Haldir. (NOTE Haldir is listed in the cast while Celeborn is not, and how many named elves were in Two Towers??) The two actors look slightly similar.. but it was clearly the actor who played Haldir.. PLUS they would NOT kill off such a from Tolkien's stories unless they were suppossed to.
And DOH! "Eleven" ugh!!!
I did not read the bokk but saw the movie and loved it. I have 2 questions.
One when Gandalf forced Saruman out of the king, what happened to Saruman? You see him cast on the floor and than nothing happens.
2nd question is about Gollum, He said that SHE will do it when talking about killing Frodo. What did he mean by that? Is that his 3rd personality. I guess its good I did not read the book because a lof of you seem too nit picky. I loved the movie and my eyes were glued to the screen for the Battle of Helm's Deep. Unbelievable scene.
I want to oppose Magus just to read his response
she is her. you'll find out who she is next movie. most people would guess that the she is mentioned only to build suspense for the next movie
The elven general was definitely the same actor as the guy who captures them in Lothlorien (POSSIBLY his identical twin). I think if it wasn't meant to be the same character, PJ would've plunked down a few extra bucks and gotten another actor to play him.
And Saruman just got the piss knocked out of him. So he got up, wiped the blood from his eyes, and went back to plotting the downfall of the horsey people.
