It's something about the smiling fakeness. If they are happy or sad it doesn't metter, they have to make people laugh and be happy. It's got to build up a lot of rage, like a postal worker, one day they'll just snap. And the makeup is creepy.

Thanks...now I'm scared of clowns too. I've actually always been a bit scared by the characters in amusement parks and what not. You can't even see their faces at all.
