outstanding showing for Jones. i hope he gets the respect and accolades he deserves. he's lead story on ESPN, if there's any justice, this will get the airplay to launch him into the boxing greats.

I saw the fight, and I have to say Jones did a Hell of a lot better than I expected. Ruiz's corner was a bunch of assholes, give it up, you sucked.

Ruiz disgusts me, to think so many people actually were in this guys corner and he spit in everyones face tonight. He wanted everyone to forget his annihilation at the hands of Tua, people gave him the benefit and he put on a disgusting display and practically handed jones the title.
No disrespect to Jones whatsoever, he is the most gifted fighter and probably the most natural athlete in any sport today. His body is built for sport, his mind is built for sport, he is the ultimate war machine. I had my doubts of him moving up to heavyweight but I also thought Ruiz was a changed man. I hope Ruiz gets fucked up by Tua again, I saw the Tuaman in the audience.
I doubt jones sticks around for too long in the division. The Byrd fight won't sell even though it would be a semi-unification. The curiosity has faded and unless he fights a Lewis, Tyson or Klitscko, he won't get 10 million or more than he will be asking for.
Jones has made history and that is what he wanted to do. It might be a little hard for Jones to move back down to 175 though. Look for Jones to add another belt to his collection and maybe stop off at 190 and grab the cruiserweight title off Vassily Jirov, that would actually be a better fight than any he will find at Heavyweight.
Jones can hold onto his undisputed light heavyweight titles for 2 years without defending them under the new "super" champion rules since he holds all 3 major titles at light heavyweight.
Jones will vacate the heavyweight title in about 6 months or so. He will not give up his light heavyweight belts cause no matter how much you call him champ, he loves belts. Plus he has nothing to prove.

Quote:He won't knock him out but I think Jones is too quick and too fast for Ruiz. I don't see Ruiz landing anything solid on Jones. I say Jones in a unanimous decision.
Guess I know a little more than cut and pasting, Hey Gonzo. :toast:

Ruiz, I thought, came in to dismantle Roy, chomping at the bit, and threw some bombs in round 1. Roy still stood, and the shots coming back seemed to deflate Ruiz. Ruiz seemed afraid to engage Roy in the 2nd round and beyond. Then, Jones went to work. What an amazing fighter he is. The speed. The jabs. The movement and juking...reminds me of Barry Sanders. Though we'd probably all agree Lewis would kill him due to the size differential and the fact Lewis is a good boxer, I'll put this thought:
ESPN has a boxing poll up on their main page:
45% of people polled want to see Jones vs. Lewis. 2nd on this poll is 23.3% want to see Lewis vs. Tyson. Of course, glaringly missing is Jones vs. Tyson...but if the polls and interest rise on Lewis, money may be put on the table for Jones to take a shot. Jones would still lose, likely, but Hell...the David vs. Goliath story, even with a Jones loss, could really help the heavyweight division and interest in both fighters.

I was impressed with Jones, he beat Ruiz soundly. Ruiz came off like a FAGGIT and the end...blaming everyone but himself for the ass whupping he took. Whining fuck can't even take responsibility for his loss. Tyson/Jones, maybe I'd pay the money. Jones/Lewis I'd see.

Per Jones today: This is probably my las heavyweight fight. i set out to what i wanted to do: make history.
03-03-2003, 12:28 AM
Lewis is not Ruiz, Lewis the recognized heavyweight champion. Lewis would dismantle and destroy jones, it's no contest. I honestly thought Ruiz wanted it but he didn't he proved to be what he said he wasn't and that is a paper champion. Jones next fight will be either a stop off at cruiser for Jirov or back to Light Heavyweight for a fight with a very worthy challanger in Antonio Tarver.

how many times has jones been knocked to the mat in his career?
03-03-2003, 12:52 AM
Once on an off balance shot.
But in his entire career I have never seen him honestly hurt or even stunned much by anyone. Except in 1992 when he fought bernard hopkins, though neither of them were near their primes yet, it wasn't a pretty fight.

Once, and that was a fall more from being punched off balance. I can't wait to see this fight, i missed it last night. I'm looking forward to seeing how Jones busted open Ruiz's nose in the 4th.

Jones curse will always be coming up when the golden age was just below and above him. He can't move down comfortably to middleweight again, or lower. He can't move up and stay there for good. He is stuck and while he cleaned out the light heavyweight division, he has faced 2 or 3 true challangers. James Toney was the highlight of his career in 1994. Lou Del Valle was a great win for Jones as well, especially knocking him out with a single body shot and the griffith fight. He does own a win over Hopkins but he is also right when he says that he doesn't fight nobodies, he just makes them look like nobody. It's the same thing that Holmes faced, he came up in an era that was empty of any challanges to him. Jones wins over anyone but he doesn't have that anyone but he still goes down as one of the greatest. He also has atleast 2-3 more years left in him.

To see a true Jones clinic if you can ever get your hands on Jones Vs. Eric Harding, that was a jones schooling unlike any you will ever see.

Quote:Jones has made historyno he didnt. spinks did it first. the fight was boring. i think jones is the best fighter out there but he would never fight a skilled heavyweight. ruiz was a tomato can. jones hasnt fought anybody good in a long time.
