i think jones would hand tyson his ass.

Thanks Goochy.
Spinks defeated a then 48-0 Holmes but spinks was a light heavyweight champion. Roy jones began his reign as a middle weight champion. Jones is the first man to hold middle weight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight titles in history, on that he is alone. He is only the second man and the 1st in a 106 years to win a heavyweight title after being a middleweight champion.
You can say that jones hasn't fought anyone since james toney. That in essence may be true that he has no been challanged but no one can challange him, therein lies the problem. He is too good for his own Damn good. He has beaten worthy opponents which would be great accomplishments for any other champion in his division. Yet he makes them look so bad that people forget that they were legitamite competitors.
Yes in the last 3 years or so he has faced a bunch of tomato cans but what else can he do? He cleaned out the division. Any fighter will have half or probably 3/4's of his record be less than worthy or journeymen challangers. A champion is defined usually by 3-6 fights, some just one. Ali and Robinson were exceptions but no one touches Ali and Robinson. Remember Joe Louis' "Bum of the Month Club". Who did Marciano beat in his career that wasn't over the hill?
People blame him for ducking, when in honesty he does not. He had a contract signed and sealed for Hopkins to accept but hopkins wanted more money. Which is ridiculous cause he woulda made double his biggest pay day. Darius Michaelschewski fought a life and death battle with montell griffith and eric harding as well as tarver. Darius wouldn't even be a consideration if not for his glossy record. Darius knows Jones will beat him easily and understands he will gain and attain fame for a longer time if he doesn't fight jones, cause if he does and gets beat then there are no more concerns about him.
If Darius Michaelschewski is so good, how come he has never had a televised fight in america? Think about that.
Yes jones beat a tomato can of a heavyweight but he beat a heavyweight champion. He outclassed a man who beat holyfield and several other good heavyweights. He did it and nothing can take that away, he has no challangers and went out looking for one. To expect him to fight lewis is ridiculous. Like the point has been made, when spinks fought holmes the weight difference was under 20 pounds and spinks was 6' 2" tall and a naturally bigger man struggling to make low weights.
Before spinks it was Bob foster who fought heavyweights weighing around 200-210 pounds. You can't expect in an era of 6' 6" and 250 pound heavyweights for Jones to even try.
Just look at some of the names on Jones resume.
Bernard Hopkins
James Toney
Vinny Pazienza
Mike McCallum
Virgil Hill
Reggie Johnson
David Telesco
Eric Harding
Derrick Harmon
and now John Ruiz.
He has fought and defeated everyone in the top 10 today except for Tarver.
Jones knows deep down he couldn't take tyson, he might have a chance by frustrating tyson but he wouldn't take the chance on tyson hitting him cleanly. Notice how jones immediatly held when Ruiz rushed him, that's how tyson fights. Jones would have to back Tyson up and he doesn't have the power nor weight to do so. Tyson would fight him rushing in all night, plus tyson is Jones height so jones would have a tough night ducking him.
Tysons problems lie with tall heavyweights, he can't punch up. But facing people under 6' 4" he is a monster still.

Jones hopes to fight again by summer
By HAL BOCK, AP Sports Writer
March 18, 2003
NEW YORK (AP) -- Now that Roy Jones Jr. owns a heavyweight championship, he might go back to his boxing roots in a lighter division.
Then again, he might not.
Two weeks after claiming the WBA championship, Jones is considering his options. They include the usual heavyweight suspects -- Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis -- and maybe even middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins.
``I don't know what I'll do next,'' he said on Tuesday. ``It's TBA -- to be announced. There are a lot of variables. Whatever's best, I'll take.''
He even tossed Hopkins' name into the mix. ``I'd fight him at 175 pounds.''
That's the light heavyweight class, a division Jones left behind when he moved up to challenge WBA champ John Ruiz.
Jones became the first man in over 100 years to make the climb from middleweight champion to the heavyweight title when he defeated Ruiz. At each stop along the way, he found critics, and it was no different when he beat Ruiz.
``They said he wasn't a credible champion,'' Jones said. ``How much more credible can you get? Holyfield beat Tyson twice. This guy beat Holyfield twice. Lennox Lewis has been knocked out twice, both times as champion. What makes him more credible than Ruiz?''
``He's nobody? I don't buy that.''
Jones was asked to rank the top three current heavyweights. He made himself No. 1, Holyfield No. 2 and Lewis No. 3. Missing from the list was Tyson. That's not to say Jones dismisses the ex-champ.
``Tyson is a dangerous guy,'' he said. ``If the money goes way up there, maybe the danger goes down and I'll get to see Mike.
``The biggest money fight would be Mike Tyson. But there's too much risk. At $100 million, it might be worth the risk. One punch could be fatal to me. But it could be an opportunity to make a lot of money. If the opportunity is there, maybe I'll do it.''
Then again ...
If Jones sounds undecided about his future, that's because he is.
``There's no telling where I might be in two months,'' he said.
Jones is intrigued by Tyson because he is the division's wild card. Holyfield interests him, too, and is probably the most likely fight. He dismissed IBF champion Chris Byrd because he believes that fight would be boring for fans with both boxers waiting for the other to make a move.
``Tyson makes guys bigger paydays than they could ever make with anybody else,'' Jones said. ``Tyson's a draw, just like Roy Jones Jr. is a draw. Tyson's not even a champion, but he brings more than the so-called champions. They're not who people are breaking down doors to see.
``Tyson's just different. There's no telling what he might do.''
The victory over Ruiz left Jones bubbling with confidence.
``I don't think any heavyweight right now can beat me,'' he said. ``I'm the most dominant champion in the land.''
The 34-year-old Jones said he would fight for another year or two and hoped to be back in the ring by summer. He said he thought Holyfield would be his next opponent.
``I don't know that for sure,'' he said, ``but that's what I would bet right now.''

He pretty much said the same on Stern the other morning. He talked more about fighting Tyson than Holyfield though, for the right money.
He also mentioned that he stopped speaking to his father for awhile cause his father killed his dog.

Jones excited about possible bout with Holyfield

ESPN.com news services
Roy Jones Jr. vs. Evander Holyfield? It could happen, USA Today reported on Wednesday.
Who would win?
Evander Holyfield
Roy Jones Jr.
Jones, who outclassed John Ruiz on March 1, may get in the ring against Holyfield on Oct. 4 at Madison Square Garden.
"It's a very exciting fight. I think Evander will fight me harder than anyone else because he's as proud as a lion," Jones told USA Today. "Everyone has written him off. They say he's 40, he lost to (Chris) Byrd in his last fight, but trust me, he's not done. He would come to win."
Jones has displayed interest in fighting Holyfield, according to Jim Thomas, Holyfield's attorney.
"Roy is interested in the fight, and Evander is interested in fighting for any of the three major titles and fighting Roy for his," Thomas said.
Jones told promoter Murad Muhammad to not just limit a future fight to Holyfield.
"I don't know for sure yet what we'll do. I'll see what looks best," Jones said. "I like the Holyfield fight, but if (Mike) Tyson is there, we'll look at that. But if I fight him, it has to be big money, $100 million. I don't need that much for Holyfield."

He could probably take on holyfield, especially after what Chris Byrd did to Holy in their december fight last year. Byrd has a style very similar to jones, jones may have more power than Byrd though. Holyfield was confused by his style and got frustrated and it turned into a lopsided decision.
Jones shouldn't get too cocky though, he pulled out of a fight with douglas a couple years ago for fear of getting hit by him. Tyson is a pipe dream for some as cautious as Roy, especially if he thinks he will get 100 million. Tyson Vs. Lewis which was the biggest fight to date, Lewis got 30 million and he was the Undisputed heavyweight champ. While jones and tyson may hold the same interest, no fuckin way Jones gets close to 100 million or 50 million. Tyson is not John Ruiz, Holyfield is a safe bet, especially since ruiz manhandled him. Holyfield is also a respectable champion who will look good on Jones resume.
Jones is notorious for changing his mind constantly though, so until a contract is signed and the fight is set I won't believe anything.

Roy Jones Jr. to remain heavyweight
Associated Press
4/16/2003
Roy Jones Jr. notified the World Boxing Association that he will remain a heavyweight and relinquish his light heavyweight crown.
The WBA said on its Web site that it received written confirmation from Jones on Tuesday that he will stay in the heavyweight division after beating John Ruiz for the WBA title.
A bout with top-ranked contender Vitali Klitschko has been ordered by the WBA to be Jones' next fight. But Jones is hoping to first fight Evander Holyfield, a far more lucrative bout.
Jones reportedly broke his right hand in a recent motorcycle accident. The Daily News reported the injury in Wednesday's editions.
The News also reported that WBC heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis missed a deadline Tuesday to clarify his plans to defend his title. Lewis is planning a June 21 fight against Canadian Kirk Johnson and has brought legal action to get the WBC to drop Klitschko as the mandatory opponent.
``It's an artificial deadline,'' Lewis told the newspaper. ``But I really do want to fight Klitschko.''

everybody is afraid of Klitschko. thats why the boxing sucks. real great fighters never fight each othe rin thier prime cause the champ always wants to fight 20 chumps to make the big bucks. there are so many belts that mandatory challenges can be ignored because one of the W's will sanction the opponents they want to fight instead. until there is one sanctioning body with a government overseer, boxing will suck.
04-20-2003, 04:15 AM
personally i think the klitschkos are alot of hype. dangerous???? sure. but, i just don't see either of them being anything more than human punching bags for Lewis. Tyson vs. one of the Klitschkos...now that would be great.

Hype = Klitchsko brothers
Vitaly Klitchsko is no threat to anyone, he had Chris Byrd beaten 3 years ago and quit on his stool. He has no heart whatsoever and would be easy pickings for Lewis.
Wladimir Klitscko's biggest fault besides his weak heart, was the fact that he was a straight up fighter with no upper body movement. He was Knocked out in 2 rounds last month by Corey Sanders who doesn't punch half as hard as lewis and doesn't possess his in ring generalship but was his biggest test cause of his hard punch. Kiltschko was finally exposed. There is no competition at the heavyweight division for Lewis.
The only decent fight at heavy that poses and interest is Tua Vs. Tyson, same height, same build, same punch, same chin and same style. Picture two trains coliding.
All the action is at Middleweight and below like it was in the 80's and early 90's.

tua is a chump
04-21-2003, 05:46 AM
Tua has never been knocked down nor hurt in his entire career, his lone losses were to lewis, byrd and ibeabuchi. Two current world champions and one man who would have mopped the floor with lewis if he hadn't gone mentally insane.
04-21-2003, 03:15 PM
tua looked like a bitch when he fought lewis.
04-21-2003, 03:50 PM
that was a frustrating fight to watch. I rooted for Tua.
