What are your thoughts on the extreme makeover shows that are on lately? Do you think that people should take such measures to change their looks?

Personally, I think you deal the best you can with the cards that you're dealt. There's no cashing in all your cards. If you do, you're surely suspect to receive the ills that are inherent to plastic surgery... loss of feeling and mobility... scarring... permanent tissue damage...

I think you're born with what you were meant to be born with. Anything else is just full of shit.

As for implants, the chicks that need 'em don't get 'em and the chicks that don't need 'em get 'em too big. Just be happy with what you have.

Of course, this does not stand for reconstructive cosmetic surgery to correct birth defects or disfigurement.
Where do you draw the line between birth defects and genetic ugliness?

I'm just sayin' is all.
A birth defect is being born with one nostril. Ugliness is having a seriously large or crooked nose.
My ears are cute!
Your ears share no qualities. One may be cute, but the other is oddly different.
That show rules, albeit quite repetitive now. But when it first started, I watched it all the time.

Those people were freaks.
Did te mtv thing last night bring this up?
Some of those people really look much better after their makeovers, but generally, I'm opposed to plastic surgery except in cases of disfigurement.
some people really really need the help. & i'm happy for them after they do. it's a cure for ugliness. well, partial cure. it can't help everyone. & no one is gonna turn into pam anderson. though for soem reason i am looking forward to the new show that takes ugly housewives & turns them into beauty queens. i just worry what they are gonna look like in 10 / 20 years. i hope their noses don't fall off like michael jacksons did.
I don't like it for the pure fact of the children.

what if you have a girl and she is fine, you not knowing she has had a bunch of work done. you have kids and behold circus freaks that look like you and some other person you have never seen before.
Once stem cell and human genome research is further developed plastic surgury is going to look like the era equivalent of using leeches to heal the sick.
I think it depends on the changes made. My friends kid has a hare lip and right now they can't fix it. I hope eventually they do or this kid will be tortured till he can grow a mustache. I had a cyst removed from my face when I was 20 just to get rid of a possible disfigurement. Chicks don't need implants...be happy wth what you got.

Yeah, I think a "hare lip" would qualify as a disfigurement and I would support plastic surgery to fix that.
I think that Extreme Makeover shows how vain we really are. I mean all these people are losers and then because they got the makeover they feel better about themselves. Total crap.
Society now makes us believe that if you are beautiful, you will get everything your heart desires.
What ever happened to working hard and going to school or maybe having a personality. That helps when you're ugly.
i think this thread is kids way of telling us that he is finally considering getting some much needed liposuction.
tummy stapling has done wonders for the fattest of people.
