That's actually a really good question and as much as I love history it's something I would really like to research. In all honesty I know the basics about Bin Laden and have read up on him here and there but really haven't looked into him to be able to fully answer that. I don't think many people honestly have, with people like napoleon, hitler, stalin, mussolini, mao, etc etc. They've long been dead and there's an abundance of literature and people have studied them and their psyche's over and over again.
Mao for example I think we completely insane, he was intelligent but a complete psychotic. Stalin it's plain to see from his life that he didn't care for his country men at all, he cared about the country which is a huge difference because the power of his country directly mirrored the power of stalin, he was an egotist to the extreme.
Bin Ladens story on the other hand hasn't even come close to completion, that is a scary thought to ponder as well.
I don't know if Bin Laden has an affinity towards afghanistan or any other country, he's not a rebel in the sense of a che gueverra or fidel or lenin who proudly waved their flags and wanted to change their country and free their fellow man (wether it was good or bad, is debatable). Bin Laden waves a flag of his own vision, that vision encompases not just a country but an entire religion, he's more of a crusader, he's not looking to lead a country like other dictators, he is looking to lead an entire religion.
If he's looking to lead them cause he cares for them and doesn't like seeing outsiders try to hurt them. Or if he is looking out for the muslim countries as a whole, or if he's simply an narcisit who thinks he is the second coming of allah I am not sure.
