He'll figure it out eventually that talking a good game is one thing and being able to back it up is different. I had a friend like that when I was a kid. Talked tons of shit. The minute we had a disagreement he sent the neighborhood bully and a bunch of kids to beat me up. I whupped the bullys' ass and my friend all of a sudden played nice...Call him out on the BS and you may get somewhere.

I also had the "been there, done that" friend.
He was just fuckin horrific to have a conversation with.
No matter what you mentioned, he had already done it.
You could be talking about the cops, he would say he was a police officer for a few months. You could talk about music, he's chime in with how he was in a band for a while. The war, he'd chime in with how he was in the army. Wrestling, ofcourse he was a wrestler in college. Football, ofcourse he was the star rusher in his HS.
I bet if I talked to him about the columbia explosion, he'd tell me how he was an astronaut once in his life.
