Whoa, hold on there partner...I'm no science guy. I'm actually an engineer, I know lots of useless crap and sometimes design crap.

But since you asked, there are a couple of common things we all drink that serve as diuretics. A diuretic is a substance that increases the body's excretion of water in the urine (read: makes your pee more watery). It does this by pulling water out of your body - go kidneys!!!11!1 - and putting more of it in your pee-pee. If you've ever taken water pills, then you know how they work.

There are a bunch of drinks we all drink that are diurectics, but the biggest culprit is caffine. Anything with a decent amount of caffine will make you pee more than just the amount of liquid you drank. This includes coffee, tea, hot chocolate, lattes, cappucinos, espresso, soda, and the like. Try drinking caffine free sodas if you're worried. Also, alcohol acts as a diuretic by inhibiting a hormone called vasopressin. Vasopressin helps you retain water, it's the reason why your mouth gets all dry and your urine turns all dark when you've done a lot of sweating and haven't properly re-hydrated yourself. So anyway, alcohol supresses that, which means it makes your body excrete more liquid, and hence, more trips to the potty.
