that may be the case, but they don't make you pass a test to vote, and many do vote party loyalty.
As I said, most people vote stupidly. Having said that, party loyalty wouldn't be terrible if candidates actually stood for what the party said, since then you could predict what a candidate is for (what they generally believe in) - but that isn't the case. I saw one candidate today who was on both the liberal line and the right to life party. While these may not necessarily seem to conflict, it did seem awfully strange to me.
This election system may suck, but it is better than the alternatives I've seen elsewhere.
