The beauty of the German Language is that for the most part there are clear cut rules for pronunciation for most letter groupings. For instance, "ie" is always pronounced "ee" and "ei" is always pronounced "eye". There probably is no such thing as spelling bees in Germany. There are some long ass words in German but if you know the rules you can spell them with relative ease.
