Quote:Religion, Government Line Blurry For Americans
(Angus Reid - CPOD Global Scan) ? Many adults in the United States believe the separation between church and state is not evident under the current president, according to a poll by the Los Angeles Times. 44 per cent of respondents believe the administration of George W. Bush has blurred the lines by mixing religion and government.
Bush?a born-again Christian?has referred to the role religion plays in his life on several occasions. During his acceptance speech at the Republican convention in September 2004, Bush said, "I believe that America is called to lead the cause of freedom in a new century (...) because freedom is not America?s gift to the world, it is the almighty God?s gift to every man and woman in this world."
Earlier this month in an interview with the Washington Times, Bush declared, "I don?t see how you can be president without a relationship with the Lord."
