He made the same point you just did in that if Giambi wanted to put this behind him and start spring training with a clean slate, that he'd have to come completely clean about his personal steroid use, apologize and say he wasn't answering any more questions.
If he wasn't going to do all of this... The press conference was pointless and did MORE damage, potentially.
He came out and admitted steroid use saying he "unknowingly" took them. Yeah right.
But in any case, if they were going to take action, that would be their chance.
You may have a point though, in that the difference between Sheffield admitting it and Giambi dancing around the issue is that Sheffield produced last year and Giambi didn't.
Common sense tells us the Yankees and any other organization are more interested in getting results over being consistent.
