You know what I always found scary about Malmsteen's technique? Unlike other thrashers, his notes don't flow together, you can hear each single note played clearly.

That's true. I think the best example of this that I can think of offhand would be the Live In Leningrad CD, where he breaks into that hyperfast version of Beethoven's 5th, and each note is distinct even though he's running through about 5 bars a second...or so it seems. Like I said, technically, I can't think of too many that are better. And I can't think of anyone who plays faster. Damn, now I wanna hear that live CD you mentioned...

And you have to see his signature guitar, the scalloped fretboard is just so fucking cool.

Yeah, that is pretty sweet...if I had that, I might even learn to play past the basic Nirvana songs and subpar Stairway that are all my feeble ability allows so far.
