I have the epitome of nuclear family. My parents are still together (had their 33rd anniversary a few days ago) and whenever we all get together for the Holidays it's a blast. My entire family of parents, brothers, sister, spouses and significant others have always gotten along, and are very close.
We're all successful, and it's in great part due to my parents.
Sounds like my family, except for a real wicked twist thrown in at the end. Your parents are people like anyone else. When you understand they make mistakes just like anyone else you see them more like regular people and not just parents. The trick is to get them to see you like a regular person too and relate to them on that level and not just on the level of a son or daughter.
