The "step-son" (aka gay lover) might very well be the shooter. He may have shot two women at a liquor store in Alabama. He may have even called the sniper tip line to brag about the DC shootings and the Alabama shootings.

All they need to do is get balistic tests on the gun found in the car and then go through the motions to move them towards inserting the IV needle into their arms. This case is closed.
