edit- I can't figure out how to change the default, but make sure when you Send a New Message
"Add a copy of this message to my sent items folder"
and "Get notified when this message is read" aren't checked...

I turned off the email feature but I couldn't find the save a copy feature. I'll have to dig around the code and turn those off later when I have a bit more time too.
