I hate how famous drug addicts are adored and looked up to..
And when their lives finally crash down due in part to their addictions, everyone makes excuses for them. Fuck that. He was an alcoholic, drug addict and I feel no pity for him.

he was a genius. a creator of a new journalistic genre.
I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.

that is a contrarian piece, and pure bluster. I have read his later work, and though it isn't as tremendous as his earlier pieces, it is still quite good. this article suffers from lack of clear info, situations and examples...it's a clear hatchet job. thompson may not be everyone's cup of tea, but at least do a good job taking him down. Poor.
