control problems don't often "settle", if the guy can't throw strikes consistantly after throwing x amount of years in the minors and like, then odds are he isn't going to develop great command.

People often develop much greater control after their first couple years. Look at the walk numbers of Barry Zito, Greg Maddux, and Randy Johnson in their early careers.
Look at Ben Sheets this year. So, just so I'm picking up what your putting down, a pitcher who wins and is "valuable" to his team is compared to Glavine? |
