alot of it is the dairy/meat thing. the idea is that you are not supposed to eat the mother at the same time as partaking in the mothers milk. also no animals with cloven hooves and no seafood without fins.
while it is now a religious thing i can only assume it grew from common sense eating ideas. in the times when these laws were created it made sense no to eat shellfish as the waters were usually polluted with human feces and proper cleaning techniques werent known. same goes for animals with cloven hooves. goats and pigs are garbage eaters and considered unclean. as for the mother and her milk , this made sense from an animal husbandry view. it stopped people from killing cattle and keeping them for thier milk thereby creating stock . its all common sense shit that was co-opted by pharisees and made into religious law.
I love him. He's like those happy old people who become known for sitting by the side of a busy street and waving to passing cars. People drive by regularly and beep just to see him and get him to wave to them.
That's just like our Arpi... except he doesn't wave or anything. He just says mean things to you. GonzoStyle Wrote:I pledge my undying love for Arpi, any retraction of this undying love is to be ignored. Nominated for," 2005 poster of the year", by 4 out of 6 mods!

you could ask the same question about every single stupid and outdated religious custom that exists.

Many people still follow it. I think there are different levels of Kosherness depending on the person and how religious they are. Others, just follow it when it suits them.

You'd think with the concept of evolution, and things like relativity and string theory, alot of stuff would be abandoned. I never quite got how the brothers at my school could teach evolution and the big bang theory.

Well, there's the people who think that changing traditions and doctrine is unnecessary. Like Mother Teresa. She was adamant against Vatican II, and also against the Divorce Referendum in Ireland. But, that's simply because she was not a smart person. She had been following doctrine for years, and it was cut and dry to her; feed hungry, clothe naked, stay with the dying. And if she thinks changing shit is gonna hurt her cause, she's made it known.
Tradition just goes along for the ride with the good people of the world, and thus it carries on. |
