I am sitting here watching caddyshack and this is inspiring me to start this thread.
People, post the movies you feel are overrated. I don't know if how some people will act about this subject so I don't think it belongs in touchy subject. At least not yet. Here are a couple from my list.
Caddyshack is pretty overrated, not saying it's a bad movie though. It is pretty funny but not worth the cult following.
No matter what any M. Night Shamalan movie is definitely overrated.
The transformers movie was overrated too.
and all three of the x-men movies.

Hmmm, I'm sure I'll think of more later but I think any Quentin Tarantino film is over rated. I did like the Kill Bill movies a little but they didn't blow my mind.
Also this prompted me to bring up a list of past Oscar-Best Picture winners. Two just from the last couple years that are over rated are Crash and Chicago.

the tarantino thing i for the most part agree with. I did like pulp fiction, never seen reservoir dogs but heard it was good too. the kill bills were too lame for me though.
oh yeah forgot to mention the matrix series definitely was overrated.

you must forgive some people who cant understand a storyline that my 3 year old son could follow.
seriously though i guess i can see how LOTR isn't everyone's thing. To some people the whole fantasy flick is a stupid concept.
now if he claims to like those types of movies... well then he should be thrown under the bus.

Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) Sucked
Ordinary People (1980) Didn't See
Chariots of Fire (1981) Just Ok
Gandhi (1982) Great Movie
Terms of Endearment (1983) Fair
Amadeus (1984) NO
Out of Africa (1985) Good movie
Platoon (1986) Incredible Movie - One of the best
The Last Emperor (1987) Very cool
Rain Man (1988) Kmart sucks more than this movie did
Driving Miss Daisy (1989) Should have kept driving. Great character development
Dances With Wolves (1990) Great movie
The Silence of the Lambs (1991) I know it's a favorite, but overrated
Unforgiven (1992) Whatever
Schindler's List (1993) Best movie I have ever seen.Sure it's tough to watch, but this is special
Braveheart (1995) Overrated
The English Patient (1996) Didn't see
Titanic (1997) Actually a good movie, but not best pix.
Shakespeare in Love (1998) No
American Beauty (1999) I love this movie and am still 15 years to young to "get" it. Lester is a character for the ages
Gladiator (2000) PISSES ME OFF THIS WON ANY AWARDS - Most overrated film of all time.
A Beautiful Mind (2001) Not bad
Chicago (2002) How many ways can I spell suck
The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003) Yes! Visuals were incredible
Million Dollar Baby (2004) Didn't see it
Crash (2005) One of the best moments in all of cinema is in this movie. The scene where the car is upside down and ready to burn....Talk about every emotion possible in a scene. WOW
The Departed (2006) Great movie
No Country for Old Men (2007) Didn't see it. Looks like suckdom

Anything Tarantino puts his hands on is GROSSLY overrated, but I'd also put Cloverfield on that list. J.J. Abrams is an amazing writer/producer, but he screwed the pooch on that film.

I have to agree, although Inglorious Basterds looks pretty decent from the previews, other than that I have only liked Pulp Fiction.

A guy just mentions that he didn't think a movie was all that great and the next thing you know he's labeled a drooling ambulance driving retard. I never said that I didn't understand LOTR, I just couldn't stay interested long enough to follow it.
I changed my mind, they evidently must be great movies. :

Napoleon Dynamite. Worst movie ever. I went with some friends, one that had seen it already. She claimed that it was the funniest movie she has ever seen.... It wasn't. I tried to fall asleep during the movie because it was so bad. (couldn't leave b/c rode with friends)
I may just hate it because of the high expectations, but I still think it's horrible. And I hate Jon Heder.
If the "friend" that loved it wasn't a chick, I would have punched her in the ovaries for suggesting it.

I went into Nap. Dynamite with very low expectations. I didn't hate it but I didn't see what the big fuss was either.

While the movie wasn't horrible it is overrated. It had it's moments and was funny, but not worthy of the cult status it has received.
