I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part.

Ok since I started this stupid thread let me be the first one to tell a story:
When I was thirteen, before I ever had a real girlfriend, I had this super cute seventeen year old girl that stayed with her parents in their cottage every other weekend. Their cottage was located just a little ways from my house, and I would fantasize about her and pretend in my mind that she really was my girlfriend. In other words I had a huge crush on her.
One day I acquired one of her school pictures and I kept it in my wallet and would take it out to look at it, hoping to get the courage to ask her to really be my girlfriend, but I was too chicken. Somebody from school saw the picture and asked me if she was my girlfriend and I said yes, that she was my girlfriend. Since she didn't go to my school I thought I wouldn't get caught. I thought wrong. Soon it somehow got back to her dad that I was lying, so I had to go apologize to both her and her dad. Which dosn't sound like much in hindsight, but I was highly embarressed and it pretty much blew what ever little chance I ever had at actually being her boyfriend. It still stings really.
