I am a die hard Red Wings and the worst I can remember is Adam Oates for an old broken Bernie Federko and Tony McKegny.
The second being a Lions trade, I know shocker. But the draft pick to New Orleans that turned into soon to be hall of famer Willie Roaf for Pat Swilling.

That should have probably said worst. Oh well, I chalk it up to an inner city education.

Being a Tigers fan, there are quite a few moves I could list. The worst trade in my book, since I've been a fan, has been the Juan Gonzalez deal. There have been worse since I've been alive (John Smoltz), but this specific trade is my least favorite.

The Smoltz deal was a fantastic deal at the time. Alexander was outstanding during his 1987 Tiger outings.

Thanks hole. And just think how bad the Gonzalez deal would have been had he accepted the big check Ilitch threw at him. We'd still be paying for that SOB to spend the yearon I.R. The only player that pisses me off there is Francisco Cordero, who could have spared us ever seeing Todd Jones and his pornstache.

I plead the age card on getting this one wrong.

At the time I was furious they traded away Justin Thompson, but yeah, Cordero is the one that stings now.
I went to a game that season, after it had become clear that Gonzalez was teh suck, armed with a big sign that said "Juan GONE!" I'm still sort of proud about that work of art. Yes I'm a nerd like that.

Why does everyone hate Jones so much? (not a huge baseball fan, btw) Last year, before he was run off the team, and used as the goat, he was like 18 out of 20 or 21 save attempts. I'll take those numbers any day.

Are you new to Tiger baseball? Jones has been the rollercoaster since the mid-90's. It wasn't something new last year.

i always believed that the tigers were wrong to trade carlos pena. 3 years later he hit almost 50 homeruns.

The % in itself was fine, but like a hockey goalie, it's not the number of saves you , make it's the timing. It seemed like every time they would get something started Jones would [ick that day to blow up. And he's not alone, they did nothing to make they bullpen better and i don't believe they've addressed it this offseason either. That whole bullpen was a mess and still is.

At the time it was right. Dude struggled for 2.5 seasons. It was time to cut the cord. Who knew that he'd figure it out 1.5 years later?

If he had turned into "40+ homer guy" immediately upon being traded away, I'd probably be pissed about sending him away, but he still struggled for awhile upon leaving the Tigers, so I don't feel too bad about what he's become now.

Fairly new, yes. Baseball is my least favorite sport, and I am fairweather fan (so maybe I shouldn't speak up)
I just know that in the last two years, he has been the most hated Tiger, and he's only blown like 5 or 6 saves in those two years. I understand the whole loading the bases thingy every time, but he still got results.

At the time I was really pissed about the trade with the Kings (NHL) the Red Wings made to get Mathieu Schneider, giving up Sean Avery. For me Avery was a lot like a McCarty or Downy.
Thank God hindsight is 20-20
Also, I forget who the wings gave up to get Todd Betuzzi for the playoffs a few years back, but certainly, if it was anything worth more than a pack of gum, it was a bad trade.

OH, and Allen Iverson with an asterisk, because the Pistons haven't lost the first round of the playoffs yet.

We saw Avery's act when he played for the Griffins and he was the same a-hole here. He was the only guy on the team you could never approach at the bar because he was always too good or the room.
And they did basically trade a pack of gum for Bertuzzi. It was Shawn Matthius, who has had a lukewarm cup of coffee with the Panthers and a couple draft picks.

That's something I didn't know about him. I remember him playing here in GR, seeing him a few times and getting an autograph from him. Then the year the Wings had all those injuries he got called up and was a spark. Beyond that I don't know, but I've heard plenty of things about him that has turned me away.

Well, if they do lose in the first round, would it really be that bad of a trade? When it really comes down to it, is there much of a difference in losing in the first round vs. losing in the conference finals? I think this trade will take a year or two to play out. Joe freed up the cap money for a reason. Let's see what he does with it before we call it a bad trade.

I was mostly talking out of my ass, I don't watch much basketball. I read about it, but that's really it.
From what I've heard, Billups being gone doesn't hurt with the emergence of Rodney Stuckey with his D and newly found 40pt efforts.

At least you admit when you aren't really sure what you're talking about... unlike other people in other sports threads.....
Anyway, I think it was a great trade for the organization, and a "we will see" for this year.

Haha yea when it comes to hockey, football, or baseball I can talk a good game but not basketball.
When I first heard about the trade, I thought 'that might work', but it is a wait and see of course.

Holy shit! I forgot about that one. Talk about setting up a franchise for a decade.
