Don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and test them with smoke detector tester. If your detectors are over 10 years old, buy new ones (they're on sale at Menards).
While you're busy doing all that, check the gauges on your fire extinguishers and make sure your carbon monoxide detector is plugged in and less than 7 years old.

What is this smoke alarm that you speak of?
....actually ours are wired in to the electrical in our apartment...it makes it terrible if you accidently let something get too warm to quickly on the stove cause there is no way to shut the damn things off for a false alarm.

CO alarms can only be 7 years old max? Crap, I'm gonna have to jot that down on the sticker on the back of mine.
