Your Favorite Guitar Solos...
#1
I know they covered this on the show but let's see what everyone else thinks...(granted, I am throwing in songs besides Stairway...Purple Haze...etc etc)

Layla - Derek and the Dominoes
Alive - Pearl Jam
One - Metallica
Seize the Day - Avenged Sevenfold
Summer Song - Joe Satriani
More Than A Feeling - Boston
Nothin' But A Good Time - Poison

Just to name a few...

Any guitar solo I would mention would be things from songs that people wouldn't really know about. But then again if you actualy stay in touch with 80's music when Jimmy Paige was in David Bowies band on the Glass Spider tour he did, And one other major kick ass guitarist that I can't put my finger on who did playing for the songs 'Scary Monster Super Creeps' and 'White light, White heat'

Okay it wasn't Jimmy Paige it was Peter Frampton. And the song that I was thinking about for a solo as just a personal favorate would be....

White Light, White Heat- Glass Spider Tour, David Bowie, with Charles Saxon on guitar.

I do wonder if i spelled that right.

Hell yes it is. It is really really friggin hard to pick my favorite guitar solos, so here are just a few notable ones that stick out in my head without giving it much thought:

1. Either of the solos in "Neogenesis" by Enslaved
2. The 2nd solo in "Burden" by Opeth (i.e. not the one that weaves in and out with the keys solo after the verse)
3. Any of the solos found on the "Animals" album by Pink Floyd (now thats one hell of an album overall)
4. The 2nd solo in "Mr. Crowley"
5. "Speed Metal Symphony" by Cacophony

Honorable Mention:
"For the love of god" by Steve Vai

Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do (right after the "woaaaaaaaaaah" near the end)

W.A.S.P. - Sleeping in the Fire

Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides Forever (eff Freebird - this blows it away)

KISS - almost any solo from Alive! because Ace rules.

Here's the thing:

I'm not a big fan of guitar solos. I love rock music when all instruments are in harmony. Pantera was ridiculous with this. Dime Bag Darrell was and will ever be, the shit. It wasn't about million-hour-per-hour licks with Dime Bag, it was being able to bring out the essence of every song with super-intense, rhythmic beats. Domination is a prime example.

If I had to pick one guitar solo, though, it would have to be Eddie Van Halen's Eruption. But to me that pales in comparison to the guitar work of Dime Bag or Jack White on almost any given song.

Just look at this shit. Uneffingbelievable:

Okay, I just watched the White Stripes song I just linked once again. My God, that is some of the most intense guitar work I've ever seen. Jack White is a su-focking-preme guitar player. Hol-eee Eff. Watch it all the way through, if you consider yourself a fan of rock music, I implore you. I'm a Metallica fan, and I can say Jack White taps into the very same nerve that Metallica did back in the day. Fock.

Well it's not fast or very technical, but you really feel the solo at the end of Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd. It's one of the few songs that you can crank every time without it getting old.

Except for the fact that the song has been overplayed to shit on the radio, in movies, on tv, etc..., and is completely unlistenable now, just like Money and Another Brick in the Wall pt 2.

Overplayed? Really? Not sure what radio stations you listen to. I have 2 classic rock stations I switch back and forth from and none of these are overplayed. Money maybe but not the other 2 mentioned.
Well, I guess that we all learned a lesson today. That it's what's inside a person that counts. And that on the inside, midgets are thieving little bastards.

If you ever get bored go to 1057thehawk.com and listen to the station throughout the day after fbhw are done, you will hear a very healty rotation of those 3 songs. They are also not the only station in the area that does that. Maybe it's a jersey thing? :Confusedhrug::

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is also the man.

Of course Kirk Hammet from Metallica is amazing but some of his better solos are always left out when talking about him.
Solo starts at 3:37

Jonathan Donais from Shadows Fall.
Solo starts at 5:25.
