I agree, Fistor. In fact I even mentioned the ill-conceived bail-out in my original presentation. Though I do appreciate your reiteration of it. That was a nice reassurance that I'm being listened to.
As for the question at hand - how socialist are we? The answer is simple. TOO socialist. If the Republicans had returned to the Regan-esque values of Conservatism (smaller government, more personal responsibility) and nominated a candidate with those values in the foreground, they would have stood a better chance.
Sadly, in the end, President Bush lost an election in which he wasn't even running.
