Because movies are an easy scapegoat. It all comes down to people being unwilling to be accountable for their own actions. It's much easier to say "I learned to smoke from the movies, its not my fault!" than saying "I tried smoking, and got addicted, and now am having a hard time stopping smoking"
So let me be the first to say:
I tried smoking on my own accord (i didnt 'learn it from tv'), i got addicted, and now it's my own problem that it's so damn hard to quit.
