I wish people would quit referring to it as a stimulus package. It's not. It's a government spending bill. I think I've got a better idea, but I'm sure there's something wrong with it.. so feel free to point it out.
If you want to truly stimulate the economy, why would they not simply send every American who paid income tax (I wouldn't even consider giving it to anyone who didn't.. that's effing ridiculous) a check for like five grand, tax free. (I got 5 grand by taking the number of filers (approx 138 million) from 2006 (most recent stats) and dividing 789 billion (proposed stimulus) by 138 million). Even if people use it to pay off current debt, you know it's only a matter of time before they start buying shit again.. It's the American way. Or they might just spend it as soon as they get the check. Is there something here that makes this completely undoable? I think it'd be worth looking into.
