lets do it a little differently:

x = 0.999....
10x = 9.999...

equation 2 - equation 1

.....(10x = 9.999...)
...- ( 1x = 0.999...)
........9x = 9

..........x = 1

How can x= both .9999~ and 1????

because 0.999... is equal to 1. it is the same number.
