Quote:Maybe it's not "fair" that you'd get taxed at a higher rate, but life's not fair, and why not help out the rest of the nation that supports your growing business?
How can you make a statement like that, then turn around and argue for handouts for the less fortunate? Here's a bit of a life lesson for anyone who wants it: If $500 is enough to rescue you from the squalor you currently live in, you're not living in squalor.
Quote:Ultimately, however, we will see which theory is best, trickle up or trickle down. After the last 8 years, I'm willing to at least give trickle up a try.
We tried it. From 1980-1988 we had a TRUE conservative mind, and now people call the 80s the decade of excess. Then in 92 we did it the other way, and things started to fall apart.

I've seen several people that were very close to me that had they had $500, they could have put pants on their daughter who was wearing shorts in the winter time, they could have bought chicken to put next to their ramen noodles for 100 days, they could have paid one month of the three months rent that they were late and coul have saved themselves from being evicted only to be sent to a shelter. $500 can do a LOT for people in need.
I do, however, see where you're coming from. If life's not fair, then it shouldn't be fair for anyone. But I think that life not being fair for rich folks is a lot esaier. Instead of making $250K and getting taxed down to actually pulling in $210K is tough, but you're still making $210K! Then there's someone who is making $25K and getting taxed down to $21K. To me, it seems like that person still has it much harder, and I think we should let them keep more of that money. I guess the problem I have with it is this: There are so many people who make large amounts of money and argue that they've worked harder for it. I've seen many of those people "working hard", and they don't even come close to working as hard as some of the people who make only $30K or $40k.
I'm curious how things fell apart beginning in 92. I'm not saying they didn't, but I'm pretty sure some of the wealthiest people in the world thank their lucky stars because the 90s were economically amazing. Albeit things did fall apart at the end of the dot com era. I'm also under the impression that during the eighties inflation was in the 15% and up range, right?

On another board I used to participate the popular phrase was "I'm not reading that LAS".
I keep it pithy and use paragraphs for easier reading.

hmm... i actually agree on the media control thing. i didn't vote either. but i'm surprised you feel entitled to openly complain about the outcome of the vote and resulting direction of the country when you didn't actually do anything to counter it.

too funny. -1's for everyone.
I could cry you a big river about a lifetime of "not fair". You just have to learn how to level the playing field. I don't believe everything happens for " a reason", but pissing and moaning about it, never changed a thing.

I can't give you another +1 just yet for your "level the playing field" approach. But when I can, I will, if I remember.
My thing is this - leveling the field is fine. But don't do so by lowering it for everyone else. Do it as individuals, raising yourself up to that standard.

I am. But not solely because of Obama. If McCain had won I would be equally bitter. This whole election, including the McCain nomination, has been because of the media.
Now I'm curious to find out who will be behind Obama pulling the strings.
Agreed. I couldnt stand either of them. Obama has a hell of a lot of hype to work through. Funny think is, I am sure the media will give him a pass if he Effs this whole thing up. But fortunately, history doesnt lie.... wait I take that back.

You know when you look at the history books and you see a certain person come to power and lead a great nation and then they lead to the demise of that nation? I see Obama being that name in the history books that everybody will look at in the future and say he's the one that screwed America.
I have a few predictions. 1. America will be attacked (even Joe Biden said that). 2. There will be an assassination attempt on Obama's life. I hope I'm wrong. I don't want anybody to try and kill him, but I think there are people crazy enough out there to try it. 3. After he socializes health care, we will have to predict when we will get sick so we can call the secretary of state and make an appointment 6 months in advance. 4. After he "redistributes" wealth, we turn into communists.

Even if the day after Obama is elected, he attempts to subvert the American constitution and immediately attempts to install Communisms, it won't happen. People would fight and I mean literally. And I would be standing In line to pick up my rifle.

Mark, your cartoon is very deceptive. The surplus was a budget surplus (i.e. the biggest tax hike in history coupled with the depletive efforts WRT to the military). The deficit was alive and well and I would question anyone who claimed that a surplus was a good thing when there existed a deficit.

I seem to remember the surplus turning back into a huge deficit being a MAJOR talking point after we invaded Iraq.
That money didn't just come out of nowhere to launch two wars in the middle east. So the statement that the "deficit was alive and well" is BS.

We already had this discussion on this very board here: http://fbhw.proboards47.com/index.cgi?bo...1364#29877
Now as to a budget deficit, yes, he eliminated that BY RAISING TAXES (THE HIGHEST EVER TAX RAISE) AND CUTTING MILITARY SPENDING.
The federal deficit was alive and well. They are two different things completely.

I'm saying this and trying to stay out of the argument that I don't know Paul Harvey's half of the story:
I'll read up on this a little more in a few (very busy right now), but can you give the reader's digest version? It seems like you're saying that Bill Clinton had a budget surplus and other presidents before and after him didn't, but he did it by cutting military spending and raising taxes. It seems to me that you're also implying that in order to have your accomplishments considered (for lack of a better term...ummm can't think of one) accomplished, Clinton would have had to have turned the FEDERAL deficit turn into a surplus. Wow. Because that would seem like it would take a miracle worker considering the size. Ok. Correct me. (I really don't know what I'm talking about here and I'm not being sarcastic or trying to stoke the fire)

It's not a generalization. To the contrary, it's with specificity that I said it. No one who knows American politics would classify President Bush or Senator McCain "fiscal conservatives". The only word in the entire original post that you could get me on, and it's a weak argument, is my use of the word "anything".
As for my credibility - I don't care whether people question it or not. Especially people on a message board. (No offense.)
