Atheists suck ass, but not all of them, I know at least one who actually has a conciounce n good morals.
Maybe I don't have such a good understanding of them, I mean why would anyone not believe in God?
Anyway I just associate atheists with satanists, racists n all those other people, evolutionists most of all, those people really need to be enlightened on what is true n false.
Sucks theres so many here, I feel sorry for them.
speedbump Wrote:Zee Wrote:I don't know what races they were. The Bible does not even use the word race in reference to people... it describes them as being of "one blood." They were all part of the human race. I don't even know why that needs to be explained. The wives of Noah's sons were not from the same family as Noah and most likely had different physical features... not to mention its possible that all three sons had different physical features.
It needs to be explained because I want to know how a family of eight white people could, in 5000 years, develop into Blacks, Asians, Native americans, and hispanics, and more. I know the bible doesn't say they were all white, but since the old testament condemned people of color (the biblical verse the KKK uses to justify their actions) interracial marriages would not have been accepted.
I don't even believe you're serious at this point, but I'll keep trying. In futility.
Why do you keep asking questions? It's like you are just waiting for zee or I to trip up and then you'll condemn it all. I think i can speak for zee when i say this, but we DONT know everything. The only One that knows this information is GOD, since he created it all. I really don't understand how you can deny the existence of GOD. Even the existence of a higher being. The fact that an explosion happened and everything you see right now, humans, animals, vegetation were formed from that? Look at the constellations and the planets and tell me you think that just appeared? The beauty of this universe and our planet are unbelievable, and when you look around it's obvious that there was an intelligent design (GOD created.)

You are right I know that I don't know everything. There are definitely leaps of faith involved in my beliefs that haven't even been addressed yet. I have no problem understanding how different races can come from 8 people 5000 years ago. I can give additional arguments but since he doesn't think that I am serious there is no reason for me to continue a discussion with him. If anyone else is interested in having an intelligent discussion about it I would be interested but its too one sided at this point.

I think it is natural for everyone to question the existence of God to some degree in some point in their life. Atheists suck ass? Well they might but Christians suck ass as well then. All have sinned and deserve eternal condemnation. I have a lot less respect for a Christian hating on atheists then atheists hating on Christians.

science requires an explanation to everything. religion requires some things to be unexplainable.
you can't defend religion scientifically, or science religiously.

Are atheists on the same par as the men and women who dies for this country, whom you consider "buttholes"?

I don't understand why anyone wouldn't believe 9/11 was a terrorist act.
What's funny is that racists are, in most cases, are also very religious. Look at the KKK.
too many people associate themselves with religion. Thats why Christians get such a bad rap. There are too many people that claim to be Christians that are no different than anyone else.

So, who created God?

Lack of belief in a deity. Renouncing the Christian Deity is for pissed off atheists with an axe to grind and a lot of time on their hands.

So you believe a vast complex intelligence, one smart enough to create a universe, can exist without a designer?
If he can exist without a creator, why do we need one?
To me, it's a lot easier to believe matter and energy have always existed than to believe an intelligent being has always existed, and that by using magic he made the universe. That bit about breathing on a pile of dust to create man? Hillarious!

Methinks you have a bit of a misunderstanding of how physics, chemistry, and biology all work together.

Just because the earth has not been here does not mean the atoms/enegery that make up the earth did not exist prior to that. The big bang theory is based off a massive explosion on a highly condensed point, and if god is eternal, why can't observable things such as atoms and energy been there. Why does there even have to be a creator?

I'm done arguing, but I just don't understand how you can think an explosion created all of this. Think about it. I mean GOD could've created the world using an explosion, but an explosion without a creator just formed all we know today? And then you believe that once you die you just cease to exist? Where did the concepts of good and evil come from? Did people just form with the explosion and develop a language, and all the intricacies of the human body? Look at a drawing of the human body, and all the muscles and everything and tell me that came out of an explosion. I just don't see how you can cease to believe in a creator when the beauty and complexity of the world screams it.

But where did GOD come from? How is he here without something to create him? How is he here without an intelligent designer? You think it's hard to believe that everything "just happened" when that's PRECISELY what you believe about God! He "just happened." He was just "always there."
You're making the mistake of assuming the big bang happened and instantly there were planets, stars, solar systems, galaxies, nebulas, pulsars, and black holes. That is NOT what the Big Bang theory is. For much of the history of the universe, the only element was Hydrogen. The density of that Hydrogen didn't remain uniform, it congealed into stars, which by the use of a fusion reaction, create not only Helium, but all the elements of the periodic table. Think of it like hailstones. Most of them are quite small, so most of the atoms that result in the fusion reaction of stars are Helium. But, conditions can be right to create bigger hailstones, and thus "bigger" atoms like Iron, gold, and uranium result (much more rarely) as well. Atoms are mostly unstable, and bond to each other to create molecules. Some of these molecules create chemicals, which react with each other in amazing and unpredictable ways. Take a water molecule, H2O. By adding just one Oxygen atom to the molecule, resulting in H2O2, you go from having a clear, drinkable liquid that sustains life to peroxide, a solvent that turns a cloudy blue at certain temperatures.
I agree these are huge concepts to wrap your head around. I'll admit they can even be hard to believe, but to me, it is even harder to believe that a vast intelligence has always existed, and can exist without a creator was the prime cause of all this. To me, that's intellectual laziness. It's giving up.
Besides, if God's vast, "superior" intelligence doesn't need a creator to exist, why do we as "inferior" creatures need one?

I got myself into quite a predicament. What you quoted as me saying, was actually said by elrushbo. It's just that when I went to quote him, it didn't quote properly. The only thing I asked was
Quote:So do you believe in evolution? Or do you believe the earth is 6000-10000 years old? What do you believe?
I agree with you.

The reason we cant percieve God always being present is because our minds cant percieve infinity. I believe I will have eternal life through God when I die, but I cant even imagine what infinite life is going to be like. That is also why we cant imagine that God has always been there.. It's because our minds cant get around it. And Intellectual laziness? That would be to just accept science as you are obviously doing. And going back to an earlier post. I believe God has always existed and that He created the universe and everything. No explosions, no evolution. God created different species (and as for the dinosaur argument many have, it does mention Dragons and such in The Bible.

None of us are blindly accepting science like you seem to believe. Science works like this "Plants use carbon dioxide and through photosynthesis they release oxygen", and to which you can say "Prove it", and then proof can be shown, very very thorough proof i might add.
Anything without proof is just a hypothesis, for example, your hypothesis is "The world was created by god", scientifically you would then need to conduct empirical research and then prove your hypothesis.
See it works like this: You make an observation of something, then you form your hypothesis. You test your hypothesis, and if there is enough empirical evidence on one side or another of the hypothesis, it then becomes a scientific theory.
So far all religion has is the hypothesis, and has yet to prove this. At least with the big bang we have plenty of mathematical and observational evidence to support it.

I wasn't gonna post this but it fits too perfectly with providencecrow's post not to.
the big bang is a THEORY. If religion could be proven, if somehow God's existence was scientifically proven, then there would be no requirement of faith. Faith is what drives religion. And as for the photosynthesis, did you think God was just going to wave a magic wand everytime someone wanted to breathe? God had to make the planet self-sustaining, obviously to support human life. That is where science comes from, its an intelligent design.

Intelligent design is not science. The proponents of intelligent design have never submitted a peer review journal, and the idea of "irreducible complexity" is considered pseudoscience by the scientific community at large. Every example of Irreducible complexity proposed by Michael Behe has been explained using current evolutionary theory.
The definition of scientific theory is an explanation of scientific observations. A theory must have numerous experiments to support it, and scientists must be able to conduct experiments that fit in the theory. In science a theory must be based on facts and predictable observations. Nothing has proven either the Big Bang Theory or Evolutionary Theory, all observations that have been made to support said theory. No conclusive evidence has been shown to support intelligent design.
Blind faith shouldn't be the driving force behind your religion.

You misunderstand the word theory when applied to science, you do realize that gravity is a theory right?
Theory as used in every day language is the definition you are applying in this case, however when talking about a scientific theory it is totally different. A scientific theory is the culmination of all the data that supports a hypothesis. i.e. I hypothesize that matter is drawn to other matter through gravity. Then through experimentation and observation we now have Gravitational Theory. Big difference.

Gravity is a THEORY, as well as the germ THEORY of disease. Theory in science is not a guess. It is a scientific conclusion, a principle that fits and explains the facts. Creation myths do not fit the facts. When you think of the word "theory" in scientific context, think Music Theory.
You're admitting God's existence cannot be scientifically proven. Fine. Then quit trying to convince other people he's real. Faith is flawed thinking. Because faith cannot be tested empirically, anyone can make any claim they want and then invoke "faith" to "prove" it to themselves. This is nothing more a circular delusion where the conclusion is presented as proof of itself. Things are not true because you want them to be.
You have no evidence that any God exists. When you say "but look at the trees and the butterflies!" it does nothing to convince me. "God did it" is not the default conclusion for everything. It is an assertion. In order for an assertion to be true, direct emperical evidence must be supplied. All you have is your assertion.

That's what I've always tried to point out. This evolution debate is just like the Catholic church in the 15th century silencing people for saying the earth orbits the sun. It violated their understanding of scripture at the time, so they refused to believe it.
Eventually though, it was accepted and the Bible was interpreted differently. For a Biblical literalist to now challenge the heliocentric solar system today, he would be a laughingstock. Even the strictest fundamentalists accept that the earth is not the center of the universe.
Evolution neither promotes nor disparages atheism. The question of the existence of a God is a purely philosophical one. Science deals only with what we can detect, test, and study. God may have done it, but that still doesn't make it science. What the Christians are actually arguing is that they believe the Genesis story is a better account of the origin and diversity of life than abiogenesis and evolutionary theory. The facts show overwhelmingly otherwise.
If Biblical literalists were to convince me that Genesis is the accurate account, they would have to fulfill these 5 challenges I have posted: http://www.godless-heathen.com/2008/06/c...lenge.html
So far, no biblical creationist has been able to provide the evidence, which, according to their own beliefs, should be easily met.
In my opinion, those who would argue against something so well-supported by evidence because their ancient book written by goat herders tells them different are worshiping a book, not God.

"Then quit trying to convince other people he's real."
They can't help themselves because "the bible told them so". When you cease having original thoughts and give yourself too Jesus you are compelled to bible thump anyone you come in contact with for fear of offending their god
"Sir, You need to get out of your car, there is a train comming."
"Why ummm... uhhh did you ummm... feel the need to errrrr, god why can't I type!!"

To be honest i think the main issue is not ceasing to have original thoughts, its that most people never get the chance to have them from the get go. Although it seems like a bad idea to reference a comedian during this pretty civil (all things considered) discussion we have going on here, I am going to because its appropriate. Here is a great point he brings up in one of Doug Stanhope's standups where right from the getgo he brings up a very applicable theoretical scenario:

Well, said. I come from a former "born again" mind frame and i guess it creeps into my thoughts.
