Why, because you started a stupid ass thread and I called you out on it? This didn't have to turn out to be a whole-board debate on what YOU think is right and wrong. People (myself included) are astounded that you can say that masturbation is a sin, and we wonder what ground you stand on to say that.... THAT is what started it. If you didn't want to be put to the dogs, you should have left the words such as disgusting, sin, blah blah blah to yourself... I only used 'maturbation' as a joke to say, in essence 'YOUR STORY IS GAY!'

Now that that's over...

Back to the original subject. 5 people (4 that may be creditable) have said that it is a sin. I would like to hear the viewpoints on why people feel this way. I'm pretty sure that in the bible it says nothing of the sort.

I think he was just trying to be nice. All religions are "as personal as you make them". How I practice what I believe is always going to be different from others.

Bottom line, I can't see any reason that masturbation could be considered a sin in any religion. If I'm going to hell for masturbation, and some minger who has raped a child, or murdered a mother goes to heaven because "he asked for forgiveness" then why bother trying to be good?!!! If it makes you feel better to deny yourself then go for it!! I'll see everyone else in hell.

I feel that the actual act of masturbation itself isn't sin, it's the lustful thoughts that usually come with it that are sin. If you can honestly say that you can masturbate while thinking about grass growing, then go on and masturbate all you want, because you're not sinning.

------------------------

As for some of the posts about forgiveness of sin and stuff, I will admit that even as a Christian, I sometimes find it "unfair" that a guy can rape kids, and then later give his life over to God and be saved, but somebody else who never gave their life to God but lived a decent life goes to Hell. Yeah, sure, that is a little unfair. Here's the thing, though, according to my beliefs, this is God's world. He created it, and He gets to determine the rules.

All sins are equal in God's eyes, according to what I believe. Stealing a 10 cent pack of gum from the store is just the same as what Hitler did to the Jews. I can't do a perfect job of describing why this is the case, and I'm not sure if anybody really could, but I'm basically at the understanding that all sin, no matter what it is, is something that detracts from the goodness that God intends for this earth, and as such, they are all equal in his mind.

As for deathbed confessionals of murders and stuff... sure, I'm sure there are some really bad people that ask for forgiveness of sin right at the last minute- but unless they are honestly sorry, and honestly are asking the Lord to come into their life, they won't be saved.

And that would be why I don't practice a religion. I will never accept that stealing a pack of gum and raping a child are equal. My God is a caring loving entity that sees the good in people, and will punish the bad.

And according to my beliefs, He does. All He asks you do is acknowledge that you are a sinner, ask Him into your life, and try to live according to His will, and all sins, no matter what they might be, are forgiven.

God doesn't have to forgive the sins of anybody, and he certainly doesn't need to offer forgiveness for something so simple as asking for forgiveness from sins... sounds pretty caring and loving to me.

The mother of a sexually abused child, or murdered son would think differently! I don't find forgiving these "sins" caring or loving! I find it to be an easy way out for people. They don't need to be responsible for themselves or their actions if God is going to forgive them in the end. Again, what is the point of trying if God is going to forgive you if you just ask no matter what you do. Sounds sick and twisted to me. That lack of personal responsibility is whats wrong in this world. It's nice that you find peace in it, but I don't.

WRT people being able to ask for forgiveness and thus allowing inclusion into Heaven, who are we to judge what others do? Who are we to say that our sins aren't "that bad" and that there should be a limit or line that you cannot cross? A sin is a sin is a sin. I think we should be grateful that our God is so forgiving.

Please do not say that Christians aren't responsible due to being able to ask for forgiveness of sins, that's a gross overstatement that paints an unfair picture of those that practice the Christian faith.

If I commit a sin, whatever it might be, yes, I can ask God to forgive me, and He will. I still have to deal with the earthly consequences of that sin, though. Sure, I can go murder a guy, and God will forgive me of it if I ask Him to. I still will be serving jailtime, however.

God's forgiveness of sins might make things better in the eternal sense, but it does not erase the earthly responsibilities that one must take for their actions. A rapist might accept Christ into his life and get forgiveness of his sins, but he will still have to serve whatever punishment he was given here on earth.

Lust and masturbation and sex and the moral quandary surrounding it is in my the five list of reasons why I am no longer a Christian. Coincidently it is also the reason why I spent five years being a Christian. I grew up on my old mans porn, became addicted to it monkey spanking. So this thread is of great interest to me. I asked my Baptist pastor, who was a young single man, point blank, after a prayer session he and I had if masturbation was a sin. He looked at me square in the eye and said yes it was. Crap.

Sort of going off of what I first posted about my thoughts on the subject...

I believe that the pastor who told you that is wrong. I feel that the act of masturbation itself isn't sinful, it's the lustful thoughts and desires that usually accompany the act that are, and I've heard similar viewpoints from quite a few other people within church settings.

I'm sure there are many churches and Christians who are more conservative, and would agree with your former pastor, and just leave it as a blanket statement that 'yes masturbation is sinful', but in my opinion, that's not correct.

Are we forgiven for our sins if we ask? Yes. Does that mean we can do whatever we want? No. The Bible clearly gives us instructions to live our life as close to how Jesus lived his life as we can. No one will be perfect but I'm going to live my life the best I can so that I don't cause someone else to fall from God's grace. By that I mean if someone knows I'm a Christian but I am constantly doing bad things I am not setting the right example, and if they are new to the faith or curious I might set them down the wrong path as well.
Well, I guess that we all learned a lesson today. That it's what's inside a person that counts. And that on the inside, midgets are thieving little bastards.

A guy in my youth group growing up asked my pastor the same question. He said what Pott and I are saying. It's the lust not the act. Don't always assume your pastor knows what he is talking about. He is human just like us and is prone to make mistakes.

My problem here is I'm one of those "all or nothing" kind of guys. When I was living as a Christian I would go for a month with out masturbating which was like eternity. It would feel like my balls were on fire and and my brain would get fuzzy. But then I was like "God will forgive me just this once" Then.... well....

Anyway, a couple of days later I would be SOOOO wracked with guilt, begging for Gods forgiveness, I would accept his forgiveness in Christs blood then a month later BAM!!! same thing. I couldn't take it and I felt like I was insane. Month after month it went on this way and the frequency of "the deed" got closer and closer. Then I felt like the worlds biggest hypocrite. Then the porn came back. Then my wife found it and freaked.

Right, believe me I understand how you were feeling. I think this isn't anything to blame God for however. This is something that you struggle with (by you I am generalizing the human race as a whole). We are taught that once a sin is forgiven that's it, your washed clean. God forgets but we have a hard time letting go. I would say, and forgive me if I'm wrong, that based off of your previous posts that you went in search for God so that you wouldn't lose your wife. When he didn't allow that to happen you started to become bitter towards him and instead of seeing where he might be leading you now you are closing your eyes. Maybe if you started over with better intentions you might get something more out of it.

This is a fair question. I honestly do not know if this is possible. Check out Hebrews 6:4-8

4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,
5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age
6 and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.
7 Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God.
8 But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

This may as well have my name in it.

1) Would be the lust that it entails? No, I don't like that my husband rubs one out to Fat Girls Porn.
2) Would it be the excessive detail of how much it is done? Lust is an easy sin to come about, and the others are doing things over in excess. Honestly, it is brought up in Church as a sin, but to be honest, as it was once told to me. "Be glad that he masturbates and doesn't really cheat, but if he stops giving you the goods, and masturbates only, then there is a break in your marriage."
